Check out the Iron Butt website - they have a lot of information about long distance riding. I did the SS1000 last year and my advice would be to get something substantial to eat in the morning, drink lots of water when you stop, have a good lunch and be aware of fatigue. It took me about 17 hours to do mine with a stop for lunch and a stop at a Harley dealership in Knoxville for a t-shirt. I am hoping to do a Bun Burner 1500 this Fall once it cools down a little bit.

1) Call your credit card company and explain to them your route...many will shut down your card thinking fraud after a couple stops. That gets pretty frustrating and will require a call to get it fixed.

2) I keep my pre-numbered log sheet and an envelope on a clip board along with a couple pens. At each stop, its easy to log your data, number the gas receipt, and stuff the little piece of paper into the envelope. You can tiddy up the log sheet after the ride is complete. Finishing a ride and then realizing you've lost a few gas receipts really bites!

Good luck and have fun!!!

Good luck on the ride.
Like the fool that I am, I've ridden the 890 mile route from home to Daytona on 5 occassions in from 13 - 17 hours and never gave any thought to adding another 110 miles to make the thousand.

Man it is really easy, i did one on my night trian two years ago no windshield didnt stop for much more than gas and coffee. I think it took us about 18 hours or so it would have been less if my buddy and I would have left the pack before the turnaround point. Anyway one other thing I did was put a couple of packs of hot dogs and some sports drinks in my saddle bag, quick and easy then back down the road.

Probably a good idea to plan on it taking longer than this. Things come up you didn't plan on. Keep hydrated and ride safe. It will leave you with a nice feeling of accomplishment. Let us know how it went.
