On the subject of jiffy stands....just today i parked on level concrete and when I started to walk away it fell over. I picked it up and thought it was my mistake but when I went to use the kickstand again I noticed it didn't have any tension at all. The spring is still in place and I compared to other bikes and it looks like everything is there. I have no idea what happened to the tension. Any ideas?
Driving off with stand down can be very dangerous. Some bikes (Yamaha Vstar for example) won't start with the stand down. Good old Japanese error proofing!
Yup, my Warrior had that. I kinda miss it in a way as I *almost* drove off with the stand down the other day.
Out for a ride and stalled my Ultra right in the middle of the intersection. Buddy parks his Indian behind me to help pick it up but beat him to it. Got going looked back as he is riding over the curb and through the grass because he forgot to put his kick stand up. We must have looked like the keystone Cops. We all have days like that.
Dropped mine in the garage the first day I owned it. I decided to roll up a bit and must have pushed the stand back out of the lock. My foot was sliding across my epoxied floor before I realized what was happening. Gentle drop to the floor.
I thought I was going to have to get my wife to help me pick it up. That would have been worse than the drop.
I can't believe it...I just dropped mine in a parking lot. Lost my keys and was having trouble with the "code". Got frustrated and siad f- it I'll just go for a walk. Guess who's stand wasn't down. Not even sure what's scratched too PO'd to even look. Oh but I found my keys on the way home...smashed in the middle of traffic....oh well
Haven't done it on the Sportster yet, but had the similar experience with the last bike ( VTX 1300 ) while getting off to gas up. LOL Engine guards were My friend and still are......WVleo
