Been there and done that. Did it in front of motel room on a road trip last year. Eveyone had to wait while I readjusted my left hand controls. Barely missed my buddy's bike.
sorry to laugh. i was just posting in another thread how i have done that. lol
glad you and the bike are ok. the ego bruise might take a moment to heal though.
my girlfriend still mocks me for it (mostly because i was trying to be all cool when i did it.)

Same thing happened to a friend who forgot to put his stand down at a bar. I cut him some slack because we were both fatigued following a long ride in hot sun.
by the way. if it makes you feel better. at the dealer last week (during that weekend cookout thing they do) a guy went to test ride an ultra classic. i guess he told them he was a very experienced rider.
well. he drove off with the kickstand DOWN (been there done that). he turned the bike and it dug in and dropped him. he was wearing a helmet and good thing. he was only going 5-10 mph in the lot and cracked the helmet. it doesnt take much.
I did something almost like that. I went to put down the kick stand and it got away half-way down. It folded back into place and I was already leaning the bike to the stand. My foot was turned and I could not hold the weight on my ankle. I ended up catching the bike and easing bike to engine guard. Pulled all kind of muscles in my back but no marks on the bike.

Reason: not clear
Driving off with stand down can be very dangerous. Some bikes (Yamaha Vstar for example) won't start with the stand down. Good old Japanese error proofing!

There is a sensor for this but for some reason it's not connected on US bikes. Seems like something that should be enabled at the factory and a rider can unplug if not wanted.
After 30 years, you get one drop :-). I rode for 3 hours on a real hot day, pulled up to the house, put down the jiffy stand and jumped off a real hot bike. Trouble was, the stand wasn't fully deployed. I hate it when that happens.
