My wife was always a passenger with me, until I encouraged her to take the Riders Edge Course. I figured if nothing else it would be a good experience for her. She was very nervous and struggled a little, but did well on the test. She is still a little nervous when riding, but that's okay (husbands we have to be patient). We are currently bikeless until the house sells (anyday now), and then it's straight to the Dealer. We already have our bikes picked out, and can't wait to goo get them. Letting my wife get her endorsement was the best thing I could of done, it made her feel good, and now she can fully share the experience of riding.

Ladies I have a question. What bikes do you ride and what did you do about the height? My wife is about 5'3 and will ride whatever I buy her, but I want to get a bike she will be comfortable on. I'm asking because as a man I always lean toward a smaller bike for her, but that may not be the best option. Please help. Thanks.

i was wondering,my very soon to be wife wants to learn how to ride but im really paranoid.to me she seems like she couldnt handle a bike.shes very giddy and well jumpy.i have a street bob i bought in january and she wants to ride but if she messes it up i will freak out.now ive considered buying a smaller bike but they all seem too tall.shes is about 5'2"-5'3".also id hate to spend the money if she didnt like it or just gave up and quit after 1 try.ive tried to ride her on the back of my honda shadow i used to have and she said her back hurt soo bad without a sissy bar she was in tears.do yall think she really wants to ride or is this just a fantasy thought she is having?
Only she can answer that. You never know if you going to really like something until you try it. If you are willing to take the chance, perhaps enrolling in a motorcyle course might do the trick. This way she can get a bit of a feel for riding in a controlled environment. She will LEARN HOW to do it, and not just go by the "seat of 'er pants" so to speak. If she still likes it after that, then definately venture out and get her something to ride. I would hate to see you miss an awesome way to spend some quality time together, not to mention the "life" itself. It might develop into the "passion" we have experienced.

Go for it! Ride safe!

Hello! Here's my story.

My husband of 38 years has ridden all his life. When I was 22 he bought a street Honda. I rode with him, and he decided to teach me to drive it. We were in an empty grocery store parking lot. He went through the controls with me, I started it up, and promptly did a wheely across the lot, with him running after me and yelling to let off the gas (which I couldn't do since I was holding on for dear life, and that, of course, made it go faster!) I didn't wreck it, but that was the end of the lessons for me.

He started racing motocross, hair scrambles, etc, etc. I would watch him race every weekend for years. I bought a Penton (dirt bike) and managed to twist my knee riding it, so that stopped that. About nine years ago he bought his first Harley, a Wide Glide. I rode a couple of times with him. He sold it in 2001 to help pay our daughter's college tuition (Notre Dame). Then last year he bought a Harley Road King. He rode it to Sturgis last summer, and had a great time! He brought back wonderful pictures and stories, it looked like an awesome week! Two weeks later he traded the King in on an Ultra.

Since he bought the Road King, we've talked and joked about me getting a bike. It sounded like fun, but I wasn't really inclined to do it. Although I was leaning more and more toward doing it, I just kept denying it. Then, in January I was talking with an aquaintance about my husband's bike, and her resonse was "you need to go to the opera!" Well, that was the last straw! (I prefer Toby Keith). In February I bought a brand new Street Glide. (Yeah I started with the big one!) I'm 5'7", so it fits me perfectly. It's in winter storage at the dealership now. I'll be taking the Riders Edge course at the dealership in April, and then I'll be bringing it home! I'm so excited about it! Wish me luck.

I'm 58 years old, and will be retiring this summer. We'll be going to Sturgis in August, although he'll take his bike, and I'll take the camper. I'm just not so sure I'll be ready for such a long trip on the bike. Maybe next year! Is it mid-life crisis? I believe I'm past that already..but who knows?

Cloudy Day is my better half. I am proud of her.

Buying the bike was her idea, in fact, she surprised me when she did it. One point I would like to bring out. The knee twisting incident happened when we were at a motocross race. I was practicing starts and a friend of mine told me I had better get over to the parking area because my wife had fallen and hurt her knee. I asked her what happened. She said "I hit that hole and fell." My friend told me she was spinning donuts in the dirt and stuck her foot in the hole and twisted her knee. Now, I know she wouldn't lie, but she might leave out some of the details!

Sultan, my first bike was a Yamaha Heritage 300cc... & it was perfect to learn on, in the yard/field... my first "real" bike was a Honda Shadow 750cc.. I would Very much recommend it to Any ladies that are a little nervous, or worried about getting a Harley. I'm 5'7" & the bike was the perfect size & weight for me ...I ran mine for a year, put Lots of miles on it, dumped it, hurt myself, & learned even more! I have few doubts about my Harley now & cannot wait for the weather to change so I can ride!
I got myself a Deluxe....

Best of luck to her, no matter what she gets!
