I decided last summer that I wanted to do something that would give me much needed freedom from work, kids, house, money, stress, etc. Something that would feed the beast inside me that wanted adventure, fun, travel, and a new perspective on life.

I have been keeping this beast at bay for some time, and even though I haven't started riding yet I KNOW my soul has. I think about it every day, more and more. I read about riding every chance I get - in this forum, in countless magazines, on the internet - I look at bikes for sale almost every day (eBay sends me daily updates). I have visited every Harley dealer and reseller in the Metroplex, so now I'm branching out to outside the area. I talk to people at work who ride, although I still haven't found another Harley rider (just Aprilia, Honda, Ducati, and two Kawasaki riders).

In short, I'm completely and totally hooked

I've even signed up to ride as a crew member for the 3-Day, 60-mile Breast Cancer Walk here in Dallas in October - my crew chief says if I don't have a bike by them, he'll borrow one for me!!

Ooooh, Claudia - I like Toby Keith, too!! By the way, welcome to the worlds greatest forum!

I'm also 5'7" and I've done a test ride on a 2006 Softail Deluxe - this bike and I are meant for each other!! [sm=Awwww.gif]

I look at other bikes all the time, but when I walk into a dealer and see that blue and white 'Luxe staring at me with those three beautiful headlights saying "please, mama, take me home" - well, you know, I just melt like butter

My goal is to make Sturgis this year in a group. It's kind of like a trip to Mecca or something - it will make me really feel like I've become a Harley rider!!

ORIGINAL: Cloudy Day

Then, in January I was talking with an aquaintance about my husband's bike, and her resonse was "you need to go to the opera!" Well, that was the last straw! (I prefer Toby Keith). In February I bought a brand new Street Glide. (Yeah I started with the big one!) I'm 5'7", so it fits me perfectly. It's in winter storage at the dealership now. I'll be taking the Riders Edge course at the dealership in April, and then I'll be bringing it home! I'm so excited about it! Wish me luck.

I'm 58 years old, and will be retiring this summer. We'll be going to Sturgis in August, although he'll take his bike, and I'll take the camper. I'm just not so sure I'll be ready for such a long trip on the bike. Maybe next year! Is it mid-life crisis? I believe I'm past that already..but who knows?

I wish I could get my wife to ride! I've tried a number of times. I have managed to get her to go to a couple HOG functions. So I guess baby steps will have to do you now. I show her any articles I come across about women starting to ride affter years of watching the husbands. I will show her all the stories I've seen here tonight.

As for the weigth loss, that's great, I need to lose around 200 myself. Those that don't have the problem just can't understand. As for your hubby liking you better with the extra 185lbs......what I have to say about that can't be said on this forum. Great job and look luck.

My wife just started riding late last year. The only thing she said was "I sure wish I had started riding a long time ago". 'Nuf said. Ride safe ladies.

I grew up around bikes most of my life and finally decided it was time to get my own and drive my own rather than riding on the back! So, went out and took the MSF course, bought a new 2006 1200 Low Sporty, and the rest is history! My husband has the 2006 Street Bob and he loves his too!

Ladies I have a question. What bikes do you ride and what did you do about the height? My wife is about 5'3 and will ride whatever I buy her, but I want to get a bike she will be comfortable on. I'm asking because as a man I always lean toward a smaller bike for her, but that may not be the best option. Please help. Thanks.
I'm probably not the one to answer - I'm 5'9' and ride a Road King. I heard the lowest bike right now is the Softtail Deluxe (which I personally think is an awesome looking bike!!!). I'm pretty sure if she needed to, she could have it lowered a little bit more.
