Granted my left arm is broken and left wrist in 2 places, but it's been healing for two weeks and I just wanted to see if I could , I wasn't planning on actually going anywhere, but I couldn't even pull in the clutch. The point is not to take your riding days for granted, because some day you may not be able to. It's been in the mid 70's sunny, for last two weeks, right now I'd be happy to be out in rain and 40's or worse if I could. Bad JuJu this summer, first bike is at the dealer for 3 1/2 weeks, finally get it back, and I break my arm and wrist at work a week later. Just a little reminder not to take life and your abilities for granted. Peace and ride safe.
still healing from a "shattered" wrist as the dr. put it. distal radius fx. all i can say is hang in there. mine happened 4/30/08. still a biatch. hopefully you can do better than i and be back riding soon. good luck
That happened to me on my dirt bike a few years ago. Of course it was right after I broke my left arm, by myself and miles away from anyone else. I was able to start the bike in neutral, but would stall it everytime I tried to come up into second. Pushed the bike for about 3/4 of a mile and found the slightest, tiniest of slopes where I was able to start it in neutral and get it rolling just enough so that when I kicked it into second it didn't stall. It was a bad brake and eventually required surgery, and actually still needs work, years after. though I mainly only have problems with it when I play guitar.
Tore a tendon off my forearm last year and had surgery to reattach it. Couldn't ride for almost 9 months. My heart goes out to ya. Heal fast and then "Ride like Hell"!
Know the feeling here also. 2000 I mashed one of my fingers off on my left hand. Doc reattached and tried to save it with 6 operations over a 2 year period. 7th operation he removed the finger. My Yammy sat so much I sold it. Then a great thing happened, I bought my Harley. At first could not hardly ride it because no strength to squeeze the clutch. But what great therapy it was.
Hopefully you will not have to wait 2 years to ride again.
Ask your doctor to refer you to an Occupational Therapist as soon as you are clear to exercise the arm and hand. (sometimes they can even do it while you are still casted.)
Tell the therapist specifically that you have a goal of being able to squeeze the clutch in.
You may even try to find a therapist that is also a Certified Hand Therapist or CHT.
