My ego wouldn't let me go to the dealer so here's what I did:
I noticed later on that my bike wouldn't start when I was in first gear and holding the clutch... so my mind started working... I read about the clutch interruptor switch and I disassembled and reassembled the clutch clamp. That did it. I still don't understand what this has anything to do with the 6th gear light coming on but the light doesn't come on anymore.
And I am so glad that I didn't go to the dealer.
That gave me the confidence to install the chrome switch housings I bought weeks ago and was to nervous to install myself. It was a piece of cake.
Thanks for your help, guys.

Damm, Girl, you got my vote, no ?'s akst. WTG, Linda.
Now, if we could get some of the guys (?) on here to take jus' a bit of that initiative.
What's the next project you're undertakin'?
I never said I was gifted for this new job: a truck driver told me this afternoon that my brake light was always on.... I guess I messed up the brake switch in the hand control... I noticed that the little rubber piece was broken but I didn't think it would matter. Now I know why the instructions said to insert the cardboard piece...Oh well. I guess I will have to go to the dealer afterall that bragging.
You learn by that experience...I can't tell you how much stuff I've broken trying something for the first time but I didn't break the same thing twice!
Hey Softail, did you check to make sure your brakelight comes on with your front brake lever? Just mentioning that because there is a little microswitch in the front brake lever area. They tend to break real easy.

I broke the little rubber on that switch. I tried to patch it together thinking that it would work... it's a little better now but the brake light stays on a little too long. But it does go off. Any idea how much it cost to buy a new one? Do I have to buy the whole switch or just the rubber cover?
