I live in an area that is affected by Hurricane Ike - Houston, Texas. Gas is a premium item here, when you can find it!! Once found - only reg is available. Filled 1/2 my tank with reg tonight, but have no idea how long it will be before we get a regular gas supply, much less premium.
QUESTION..............
Suggestions of how much octane booster per gallon of reg gas that I put in my tank??
Thanks bunches for the information!
Puddles
ps......... I faired well - no damage to my home, mess to pick up from surrounding trees. No electricity at home, with minimal water pressure. Staying with fiance - he lives on west side that actually has electricity. His house made it ok. We've cut down a tree that fell in his backyard, but did not hit the house. *whew*
glad you came out ok , SUPPLY MIGHT BE IFFY for a week or 2 , refineries will be a week before being online again , but all local tank farmes should have been filled to the max , since a fully filled tank should be much stronger than a partially filled or empty one. That said , I'd think fuel farms prolly only have a 3 day supply (normal needs) on hand.
Still looking for suggestion on if I should and how much octane booster to add to tank since regular unleaded is the only thing available in the Houston area.
Life is different, but the good thing for us is that all are safe and sound. For that we are blessed!!
Thanks Ron!
I am sure there are no HD dealerships open right now as they don't have electricity, but that gives me an idea. Will try to do some reading of labels and comparisons.
Jeff - thanks for the commentary. Though right now that is not the attitude that I am trying to maintain, as we are in survival mode. Gas equates waiting up to an hr or more at times. I am blessed and feel very very lucky to have electricity at one of our 2 homes. There are no grocery stores open. We have water, but can't drink it as it is considered contaminated at this time. Please try to keep a positive attitude rather than neg, with people who may be trying to survive day to day.
Personal update - hoping to have my family back in one household today. Waiting on daughter and youngest son. Daughter spent 2 days without electricity from the storm despite driving 150 miles to be safe during the storm.
I got sleep last nite, but feel far from rested after doing 36 hrs at work - nurse, at the only hospital open on the north end of the area.
now to arrange fiance's house to fit 3 more people for the next week or two until we get electricity.
Puddles,
The other brands of gas additive that are in that same kind of dual reservoir bottle as the Harley brand product are virtually the same stuff. NAPA and others have it. Just follow the bottle directions.
Glad you came through the storm with no more damage than you mentioned. As a nurse, you are surely pulling long hours. Hang in there, Girl!

don't worry puddles, i feel your pain. i'm in the houston area as well, and have had 10 people staying at my house for the past 5 days. we're the only lucky ones with power, though internet is still sketchy, along with water pressure. hopefully some more grocery stores open soon as we're running low on food and other supplies (when the wife and i stocked up we had only planned for our family of 4 for two weeks, so with the added mouths to feed we're running very low). We've been going as few places as possible, thankfully the truck and the wife's car are full of fuel, along with the bike. but i'll be taking the bike any time i need to go out (i.e. back to work for the first time today), due to its much better fuel economy than anything else. got 5 gallons of premium in the garage too just in case.
absolute abismal living conditions in houston and the surrounding areas. no electricity for most of the area (1.5 million homes last i heard), contaminated water supplies, no grocery stores, no batteries, no fresh meat or produce. hard to believe how so many people are just trying to survive.
glad to hear ya'll made it through the storm safely puddles, hopefully we all make it through the aftermath just as safe.
oh, to answer your question though, just read the directions on the back of whatever bottle of octane booster you buy. it's usually one bottle per 20 gallons, so you should be able to treat 4-5 tanks with one bottle of booster.
