When I get out alone on long rides I sometimes start doing numbers in my head and think, if I sold everything but the bike and a few changes of clothes, quit my job and just headed west, how long before I hit rock bottom. That'd be the ultimate freedom, anyone else do this?
I often think about what it would be like to sell out, pick up, and leave. I have no worries for myself, but I would worry about providing for my dahling wife. Then there's the kids and grandson. <sigh> But yes... sometimes I just feel like calling it a day, hopping on the bike, and heading south all by my lonesome.
Rock bottom? I don't think I'd ever hit rock bottom, wherever that is. I would take odd jobs to scrape up enough money to eat and keep gas in the tank. And, I'm not above doing just about anything that's required.
Fantasize? Absolutely. But I have three great kids and a Wonderful wife I'd leave behind. I'm Often selfish, but not irresponsible. I'm o.k. with fantasizing.
Yeah me too. Obligations and responsibilities, but one day everyone is gonna be grown up. Just like the retirees that sell their homes and buy a 500 thousand dollar RV. I'd be happy with a backpack, the OL, and a bike. I slept on the ground for the first 15 years of my adult life, best sleep I've ever had
