Let me start by saying, I am not looking for a lecture. Yesterday we went about 170 miles to Dallas for the Cowboys game, I know they lost. Anyway, On the way home we got about 30 miles from Dallas and the bike started to feel like the wind was pushing me around. I pulled over and the back tire was flat. I had a compressor and plugs so, with a cell phone as a flashlight I got it plugged and pumped back up. The tire looked fine with air in it.
We traveled another 20 miles, and the bike started to feel kinda odd again. I pulled over and the rear tire was rubbing the fender. a belt must of broke in the tire. heated up the rear fender and bubbled the paint. I called progressive and they could not find anyone to tow us the remain 120 miles home. they said I had 150 miles worth of towing. I called the sheriffs office.
Took the dispatcher 5 minutes to get a tow truck for us. My wife was pissed. Well $400 worth of towing, a new rear fender, and a new rear tire is now on the need to replace list.
We got home around 3am. wife was happy I got her home. I hope progressive reimburses me for the towing.
Moral of the story glad I could plug the tire, but I wish I would of just had it towed int he first place.
Don't beat yerself up over pluggin a tire...many folks have plugged tires and they've gotten 'em home with no probs...sounds like ya just had a bad luck-of-the-draw kinda thing. But ouch...that's gonna leave a mark on the ole wallet, aye. Good luck with the insurance thingy.
And I thought I had a BAD day watchin' the Vikings lose, from the couch.
Hope you get reimbursed from them.
You did the right thing, pluggin', etc. Just a fluke on the broken belt and bulge in tar.
The BEST part, you didn't go down cuz of it. That could have gotten WAY more expensive, or WORSE!!!!
I would have most likely done the same as you. It almost never fails that what you decide to do ends up being the wrong choice. Glad you and the missus got home safely and I hope your ins. comes through for you. Let us know how it turns out.
Wife and I went to breakfast the other morning and decided to stop by Lowes and look at some items for some home improvement projects we have been discussing. Came out to leave and darned if I didn't have a flat. 1,000 miles on a new tire!!
I was about 1 1/2 miles from home so I pumped it up with my 12v compressor and noticed the leak was very slow. Rode home, jacked it up, and not one, but two nails. Plugged both holes and 4,000 miles later no problems.

I had a flat last week about 50 miles from home. Came out of a store and the rear was about3/4 the way down. I looked around there was a Jaguar dealership. Got them to plug the tire for a mere $22. I was glad to pay it and get home.
