I followed the instructions in the manual to reset the code but couldn't make it work. I think it is sensitive to the timing you enter. I didn't try very long.
I had mistakenly thought that you needed to know the code that was already in place. In case the factory or previous owner had installed one.

I don't know if you have a different type of security system on your bike than I have on mine, but on my bike you DO need to put in the code to disable the security system or to change the code. Think about it...what good would a security system be if all you had to do was follow a procedure in the owners' manual that let you put in a new code without first knowing the existing one? If you don't know the code a safe bet is to use the last 5 digits of the bike's serial number, that seems to be a popular default for when the dealer sets up the code on a new bike.

You don't need any previous code, on my year and make model, to put in your personal code. You do need the key fob to get started. Without the key fob you can't program it.

To disarm with no FOB
Ignition on press both turn signals down
Left signal Imput numbers if you want 2 press twice then Right signal verify and hold the number
Imput the 5 digit code to disarm system using the above method
To find out your code Ignition on/off/on/off/on press left turn signals three times fast and the right turn signal once. Must have the FOB with you. Will display code. Use above method to change 5 digit code.
The numbers will appear on the odometer by the way.

I never use mine either. Like angry turn signals flashing is going to really stop anyone more than locking the fork. I won't make it too easy for them, but if you're out somewhere and they really want it; they can get it.
Didn't have a choice as it was already on the bike that I wanted. I wish I could just take the whole thing, siren and all, off! Like you said, If they want it, they're gonna get it!
I have the siren and pager with mine and the siren is really loud. I think the system is well worth the money. Now if I can just remember the code that I entered. Easy to enter, hard to remember.
