with the price of a new tire, why would you want to smoke your wheel?

Saw a couple dips**ts doing it at a gas station last year on their way to laconia, bikes were on a trailer one of em was over a screw and ripped the tire to shreds.

That's the second purpose for the wear bars on your tires. When the tire is worn to the wear bars it is time for burnouts.

I've done them both ways. Hold front brake and drop the clutch at a reasonably high rpm. I've also bumped a post or parking block to negate the use of the front brake. Stupid or not, it's damn fun. Its my bike, my cash. I'll do with it what I want.

1. Because the sight of the smoke pouring out and the sound of the engine rev'ing away are two sensations that simply belong together. If the love of performance and power from a bunch of metal is anywhere in your DNA you have no choice but to love it.
2. Because the smell of burning rubber is so unmistakeable and should invoke memories of being 16 with some piece of crap car or bike learning about all kinds of life lessons. If you didn't get that chance at 16, then by all means, do it now!
3. Because it is an icon of cool and there is nothing wrong with a little cool in anyone's life any more. Screw the stock market, the election, the price of gas and the war - a good burn out is just necessary sometimes.
4. Because watching someone else do it all the time just doesn't cut it. Not that EVERYBODY is required to do burnouts, but if you have the desire in you, then jump on that thing and cut loose.
** For the same reason I used to do crazy long skids on my bike when I was a kid!

** For the same reason we did burn outs on our Big Wheel as kids until the wheel had holes in it.

BECAUSE IT IS FUN!!
