Got one to add, be really careful the first few minutes when it starts to rain, the water will lift up the oils on the road, and it can get real slippery.
Also careful in winter, the roads might be dry, but it might have frozen over night and what looks like a wetspot might be black ice.

All excellent points ant things to watch out for. But, I ran into today that I never considered. Getting cold here in Minnesota with frost on the ground, but, watch out for smashed pumpkins on the roadway. Very slippery!
