Show's what you guys know. The timing chain is located just to the left of the radiator return hose. Most likely the noise is coming from the thrust washer that is in the factory turbo which is located adjacent to the timing chain.

NO, NO, NO. That's the "Speedy Shifter" It's an aftermarket thingy that never really caught on but I liked em. You slam your right knee into it and it shifts the bike really quick (great for drag racing). Most of them I've seen on the early 90's Shovel's don't seem to work that well anymore. I think that people really abused them. They just weren't built that well.
The return hose for the radiator is under the oil bag and connects right in the middle of the radiator.

well i really need to find the turbo cause you said it could possibly be the thrust washer in the turbo. thanks
i tried that sppedy shifter thing, and no matter how hard i banged my knee into it it wouldn't shift the bike. now i have a really nasty bruise on my right knee
