Default Hatin’ Harleys

Yesterday afternoon I stopped at a local bike shop that sells BMW’s and other European bikes. The shop is a few miles from my house. I was interested in finding a good pair of winter riding gloves. I was looking around at all their apparel. A few of the employees were showing me things and were very polite. One of them asked what kind of bike I ride. I said a Harley Road King. He replied with “oh” and walked away. I found a pair of gloves I liked but they were too small. I wanted to see if they could order a larger pair but none of the employees wanted to deal with me. One minute they were extremely polite and the next they were downright rude. Everything changed after they found out I ride a Harley. I couldn’t get anyone to help me so I got fed up and left. I’ll never set foot in that place again.

Yesterday was the first time I ever dealt with people that look down on me for the type of bike I ride. It was an interesting experience. I never understood why people act so childish. I don’t care if you ride a Road King or a Gold Wing. The bottom line is that you ride. I’m not going to look down on anyone because they have a make / model of bike that is different than mine. Obviously there are a lot of people out there that don’t feel the same way.

Anyone have a similar experience where you were treated differently by a person or a retailer because you ride a Harley?

Coming from a Honda cruiser, I've seen the type of behavior that you speak of several times over; however it was always from HD riders. But we all know that you don't have to ride a particular brand of bike to be a a-hole. There's those type of people everywhere, I just ignore them.

I've gotten that kinda response at certain Harley dealerships when I was on a Road Star. At that same dealership, a friend of mine tried to buy a universal flag mount. When he told them he road a VTX, they said, "Sorry, we can't sell this to you." Now that I ride a Harley, I'm relunctant to even buy anything there. I'll ride 30 miles out of the way to go to the next H-D dealer to buy a $10 part if I can.

With the economy as it is they should be kissing your *** for your money no matter what you ride. Sorry this place was lighting Cubans with hundreds and did not need your pittance.

Yeah, I have, but who cares? I don't spend one second concerning myself with who likes me and who doesn't. I am what I am, I ride what I want. If someone doesn't like it, they don't give the a second thought.

Oh, and hey Slaps! Good riding weather, I'm jealous!!

Nope, never had that happen. As far as the "as long as you ride deal", I don't even care if a person rides. It's all about personal choice.

Had a similiar experience but a little different. I too was looking for some gloves and stopped in a Kawi/Yamaha store. The glove rack was back close to the parts counter. As I am looking through the rack, I overhear a customer at the parts counter talking to the guy who works there. The customer is blasting harleys. He sounded like someone who felt he was in a like minded place and just couldn't shut up. I couldn't really tell if the parts guy felt the same, or was just giving him the Uh-Huh response over and over. Finally, customer leaves, I go up to parts guy to ask some questions on gloves, he gets around to asking what I ride. After I tell him, you could see that look in his eye that he knew I was in ear-shot of that last conversation. He knew, that I knew......kind of forgot about that until this thread came up. Oh well.....fukk 'em
