Well, the first thing I do is stay the heck away from Daytona, Myrtle Beach, etc. I have a bud whose bike got stolen out of his locked enclosed trailer in a parking garage in MB. He swears the police were in on it and says he can prove it.

Don't wash it for several years and it is unlikely to be stolen. Lock it up and make sure you have full coverage insurance. It is a well known fact that if someone wants it, they WILL get it. Usually four stong guys stick and iron bar through each wheel and lift it into a truck or van. I lock mine to something stationary if possible. Covering it would help too, and use a Honda cover. I also have the audible alarm on mine with a pager. Park next to those with nicer newer bikes helps. I have the oldest bike of my riding group, so I don't really worry.

Ride with a group, have a couple of guy's watching the bikes while the others eat, ect, and, if you can't carry, get a couple of cans of Mace for them, the stuff they use on bears.

Keep a laser pointer with you if you don't carry. I have one from a small level that works GREAT.
When your alarm or pager goes off, slide open the window curtain and light up the bike.
If you don't have an alarm, cable her down to something unmovable twice.
I NEVER take an upstairs room when on the road. Always a floor room facing the parking space and the bike is always right out the front door.

Motorcycle theft is not a big problem where I live. A lot of people don't even lock their doors or cars. I use a Glock gun lock for my helmet. I lock the forks if I'm going to be awhile. If I'm only going to be gone for a moment, then I take the helmet with me. I also try to park it where I can see it.

I also park my Ferrrari where I can see it too. I often have a crowd around the car so big that I cannot see the car when I come out of a store.

I worry about the kids more than people trying to rip my toys off for the value of them.

The first thing I do for security, is stay away from places like Daytona, especially during an event.

Other than that - lock the ignition, lock the forks, arm the alarm, and have insurance. That's enough to keep the joyriders away. If a pro wants it, he'll get it no matter what I do.
