I'd say yes - they should take care of it. You paid a boatload of cash for custom tins.
It looks like they may have wet sanded through the base coat during prep.
I've seen similar blemished stock paint covered by the dealer.
Good luck!

Never mind - reading the rest of you post, that this wasn't stock on the bike when you bought it, I'd say yes, they should fix it.

It's a ****ed up process of ordering a part number for a tank reshoot but I've done it a few times and your dealer is just being lazy. Take it to a different dealer. Warranty isn't covered exclusively by the selling dealer. Holy crap.
You're right. There are a lot of details being left out. The personalities included in this fiasco is one of them.

The grounds that the dealer won't commit to replacing the tank with the custom paint unless they ship it out seems to be that it would cost the dealer money if it comes back from the Moco denied.

I don't know anything about who actually painted the tank. All I know is that I bought the "custom" painted tins from Harley Davidson and paid pretty good dollars for it.

As far as "reshooting it", I have no clue. I would think that replacement of the tank with the paint job on it would be the only way, even if that means ordering a whole new set of tins.

Well I can see it and if I was you I would not be happy either. I think a repair you will be able to see so I would want a complete repaint or tell them to give you your money back and find your own painter

I can see it plain as day. That your dealer isn't supporting you, you'll have to take it to another dealer. This ain't the first time I've heard of problems from their paint shop. I once thought about getting some custom painted tins from HD, but after reading stuff like this, I wouldn't let them paint my bicycle.

Don't agree Bren. There's an acre of bike to look over at delivery. In the excitement of that delivery it's very possible to overlook something. I do believe there's a fine line of nit picking and actual issues though. This is not nit picking in my opinion.
Also, according to your view, "Hypothetically", what if the bike starts and seems to run fine during delivery. You take it off the lot only to have it blow up in a week. Should the dealer be responsible for the warranty?

It should definitely be replaced under warranty. It makes no sense why the dealer could not order another tank in to replace yours, then send the bad tank back. Why can't the dealer send pictures of the paint defect to HD?
There is no reason you should be without your ride because of their shoddy workmanship and/or lack of quality inspections.
Good luck,
Tom

You need a better dealer! You probably will be without your bike for a while, but they will fix it.
In fact I know at my dealer, they would order the new tins for you, and allow you to continue riding the bike until the new parts came in, and then installed the parts and ship the flawed parts back out.
Go stand at the service counter and refuse to leave until you get some satisfaction. I'd stand there all day if I had to. They'll eventually get tired of looking at you and hopefully decide to do their jobs. Make them call the cops and have you removed if it comes to that, then you can file a lawsuit.
You should have put the name and location of the dealer in your thread. Chances are sombody who works at that dealeship probably visits this site.

Yeh, that's pretty obvious. I'd definatley make sure they took care of that considering how much it cost ya.

On anything NEW like a car, truck, boat or motorcycle part of the buying experience and expectation is that it is FLAWLESS. I think you should be able to expect to not have a blemish on a stock bike and especially not on a custom paint set.

It would totally drive me crazy just knowing it was there and if you think a woman with PMS is bad just let me have to deal with something like that. They would have already repaired or replaced it to get me off their back.

There are many very talented painters around that could repair it and I would have someone look at it and give you an estimate and go back to them with three options.

1) Repair or Replace it.
2) Reimburse me for the repair.
3) Come see me in small claims court.

Good luck
