yup happens to me everyday...i live in a college town and stupid girls on their cellphones are everywhere...its weird you just FEEL that that person is about to merge right on top of you...you tap the brakes a tad to get ready and then bam! your full on the brakes and the horn...i always end up never in really that much danger in that situation because ive already prepared to give myself enough distance
Gavin DeBecker wrote a good book called "The Gift of Fear", in which he explains how crime victims often indicate they had a feeling something bad was going to happen, even while saying "I didn't see it coming".
I generally don't do well at believing in things you can't see or quantize, but, it does seem we have some sort of "sixth sense", perhaps fueled by measurable factors (experience, what we see around us, etc.), that some people tune in to. I think we often attempt to ignore these feelings.
I do notice many people who are involved in accidents say things like "I just knew she was going to pull out in front of me!",,, so maybe it's something mystical, maybe it's just a learned ability to assess the situation. Not sure, but, in my mind, people should not ignore gut feelings or intuition

Midnit well said. I'll share this in that it was kind of funny in that nobody got hurt.
I'm riding with a buddy near Leisure world in Laguna Hills. Leisure world is a retirement Mecca where the average age seems to be like.....95! Anyway were riding next to each other and were getting ready to get on the Freeway. We are in the right hand lane closest to the sidewalk with a car in front of us waiting for the red light to turn. I look to the left and here comes a very old lady in a 80's Cadillac Fleetwood pulling up to the light on the lane to my left. As shes pulling up to the light she actually goes 3 feet into the cross walk as a motor officer pulls up behind her. I look over and see the gal look in her mirror, she see the COP and realizes she's in the cross walk so she puts the car in reverse and starts to back up. Cop see this, shakes his head like "No big deal lady, just go when green"....he starts pushing his bike back to make room for her. Heres where my gut feeling came into play. I'm thinking to myself....this gal isn't going to take it out of reverse, or forget shes in reverse and when the light turns green...CHAOS. Well, light turns green, lady hit the gas, car backs up, cop tries to back up, cop jumps of the bike and the lady proceeds to go over the bike. You think thats it? NOPE!! She panics, throws it in drive and goes back over the top of the already mangled bike!!! ME and my buddy jump off our bikes and help the cop pull the mangled pile to the side as he was calling for an ambulance because the gal was hysterical thinking she killed the cop!
Sorry if this was a bit long and off topic, had to share.
People that wear hats when driving, pay attention they will do something stupid almost everytime, don't know why,but something I have noticed over the years.

I don't think smaller bikes register as fast with cagers. One thing I used to notice when I had my Aspencade, for some reason, people weren't as likely to pull out or do other dumb crap.
I'm a new rider, but ever since getting into this sport/hobby/lifestyle, it has been my belief that given most accidents with cars occur because "they didn't see us," that I want to ride the biggest bike I can (while being able to handle it well, feel comfortable, etc.). I wear a yellow full face helmet, in part because I like the color yellow, but more-so because it stands out. Try to make yourself as bright and big as possible out there (within reason).
I will be interested if I notice a difference, in this regard, going from my sporty to a road king.
ride safe all

I don't trust Volkswagen, Saturn or GM SUV drivers. Around my area, they seem to be (here I go generalizing...) the busiest or most arrogant 'you're in my way' type of drivers. I'm sure in other parts of the country you could pick a make or model of cage driver that you can count on to not check blind spots, run red lights, etc etc.
