couple weeks ago, i was buzzin along a 4 lane. speed limit 45mph. coming up to a stop light, it was green. both directions had left turn lanes. lady in some green car was in the oncoming left turn lane. i looked right at her, saw the whites of her eyes do to speak. little voice said, shes gonna cut in front of you. i slowed to 25-30. sure enough she jumped out. i hit both breaks and the horn. she did stop. but after about half way into my lane. left a little rubber on the ground. guess i didn't slow enough.
another 4 laner. this time only left turn lane in my direction. light had been red. cars in both forward lanes and the left turn lane. i didn't need to stop as the cars in front of me started to go. i was in the inside lane. as i was driving between the right lane and the left turn lane that little voice again. something just isn't right. i slowed some. it was that red suv in the left turn lane. what was it. couldn't tell. was in the middle third of the lane. suddenly as i was even with the back passenger door of that red suv, it cut out of the left turn lane into my lane pusing me toward the cars in the right lane. horn again and it stopped with just enough room for me to squeeze around between it and the right turn lanes. would have been bad if she hadn't stopped as i probably would have bounced off the angled side of here car even though i was only going maybe 10 mph.
its almost like a radar or premonition or something. whatever, i just hope they keep up.
interestingly enough, these were all on the sporty. on the ultra it doesn't happen as often or as blatant. is it because the sporty drives different?

WELL, DOH !!!!
Mark, THEY know you aint s'posed to be riding no 'sissy' scoot, too.
Geesh !!!
Call it what you want. IT worx !!!!!!! Well, at least in these cases. And you are here to post 'bout it.
I don't think smaller bikes register as fast with cagers. One thing I used to notice when I had my Aspencade, for some reason, people weren't as likely to pull out or do other dumb crap.
That sixth sense is real. My wife will ask me how I knew I was going to need the horn or would have to stop quick. I can't explain it but I do. I think that drivers make little "telltale" signs and movements that show they are about to do something stupid.

Aspencade???? Did you go from that large bike straight to your sporty?...and if so, how did that feel at first and what made you make such a radical change?

One word: Aspencade.
That's ALL.
How did it feel? If you have to ask, and he has to explain, you wouldn't understand. Bwahahahaha
I've been in a habit for prolly 30 years now, when I come to an intersection or on to an intersecting road with a car waiting to enter, I ALWAYS flash my high beams twice to get their attention. It really works. Can't tell you how many times folks have started out, seen my flash, and stopped immediately. 40+ years of riding and never been in an accident. (KNOCKIN" ON WOOD HERE, SO AS NOT TO JINX) but you've got to do everything you can to let people SEE you. DEFENSIVE driving is truly the best thing you can do when riding a motorcycle. You have to think for both YOU and the other drivers out there. Ride safe. Oh, and the 6th sense, yes, that works too. Just another tool to put in the tool kit for safe riding.
I've stayed alive for 40 plus by ridin' like everyone's out to kill me! Kinda like a video game I would guess. Don't play video games cause I'm too busy livin' life outside the house!

Many years of driving a large vehicle, you can read the traffic on the road. Just observe cars and trucks and you will begin to see the tell-tale signs, like,"There's a gap behind that car in the the next lane,I can squeeze into it. Then I'll be able to get to the store 30 seconds faster than if I stay in this lane." Most drivers are in such a hurry to get some place that their "brain" only focuses on that objective. Most everything else is excluded, like motorcycles, sometimes cars and 18 wheel trucks.
In general, a lot of drivers cannot judge the closing rate of a motorcyle. Keep that in mind when you are riding. It will help you avoid a collision.
I don't mind explaining
I've owned a few diff scoots (including some previous HD's), and I had always wanted a bagger. Couldn't afford a Harley at that time so I bought a Wing. Rode it for a few years, and ended up getting sick of feeling insulated from the road and riding something around that weighed half a ton. So I doubt you'll ever see me on a Harley bagger either.
I prefer a lighter naked motorcycle. Guess the same goes for my taste in women..heh
Plus I missed being on a Harley
