I was just curious if anyone on here has ever tried to take an old classic wide spring solo and mount it directly to the frame instead of raised up on springs? If so, got pics? Ride quality? I am considering trying this for my next seat.
no picks but one of the guys i know, uses old tractor styly seats on all his byks, on the softails he keeps the onion springs but puts a bolt through them to pull them down lower, thus makin it a solid mounted seat! not a very good xplenation but its simple & it works, dosnt effect ride if its a softail. on of his bikes is in this months back street heros bike mag page76

The tractor style seat is exactly what I'm talking about. That is a good idea to cinch down the springs with a bolt. I don't think we even get Back Street Heroes around here. I'd love to see it though if you know of any pics online.
will see if i can get some pics, but its winter & everybodys gone to ground! he's got a herritage like yours done 50s bobber style tractor seat blacked ot rims, square walled w/w tyres etc it looks sweet.WWW.WWAG.COM. & WWW.ZODIAC.NL.do orig seats with post alla 40s style quite cheep, a buddy of mine put 1 on a springer
My '78 FLH had the pogo seat setup. Most comfortable seat I've ever ridden on. I pulled the pogo to replace the spring with a heavier one (got married & started eating regular!) and decided to just let the seat sit on the frame. It was not as comfortable as when the pogo was installed, but still pretty nice.
I saw a picture of a solid mounted solo seat, I will try and find it, it looked pretty good.
I have a mounting kit and a solo seat for a softail if you are interested.

Well that would depend on the seat and the mounting setup. I already have one setup that used to be on my bike with a sprung seat a few years ago. I am really more interested in having it rest right down on the frame. Also, I have a couple of different solos laying around over here, but not one just like the old Harley ones. I have one that is similar, but seems as though it is even wider than those. It looks kinda silly sitting on my frame because of its width.
