Default dealership changes

My local dealership is changing how they do business. Discounts on a point system instead of across the board like it used to be. The Christmas promotional has different requirements and I have always managed to meet the requirements by putting off some purchases till November for some big items but I don't think I will bother this year. I am not sure if it is a sign of the times or just time for a change. I have noticed that I am spending less money there. Too many shirts and just about chromed out on both bikes. I noticed that there is what appears to be less foot traffic but not sure if that is the economy or the holidays approaching. Dealerships in your areas changing?

down here were i live they have done the points system since ive had my bike (3 years), the thing i dont like about it is you have to accumilate all your points in the calander year and as soon as the new year starts so does your points, they dont carry over. so i tend to lose alot of points that way. but yea you get so much off for the first 250 points the 500,1000,1500 and so on. plus on things that are on sale you dont get points and that sucks.

As a consumer I think I'm going to change how *I* will be doing business. From now on I will buy parts and accessories from the local dealer if at 15% discount. Otherwise I will order from Chicago or Zanottis at 20% discount. If the dealer isn't comfortable with making 5% more than the mail orders, so be it. I'm not interested in playing the points game, or S&H Green stamps. Am I being unreasonable?

Lots of dealers try creative things to drum up business during the slow times.
Really nothing new.

I've bought two bikes in the last three years and have made all my aftermarket purchases online because of the dealers goofy points system. Somebody in HD marketing has sold this bill of goods to the dealers. For the uneducated consumer it may sound "OK" deal, but anyone that does the math, will but online with 20% off and no tax more than covers shipping.

To some that may be a forgotten art. I have been lucky to have found a couple of dealers that still do business that way. they are out there, you just have to look for them.

Glad I posted this. I had forgot about them doing mail order at a discount.
