My Dad is an avid Harley rider. Or was until vein disease cost him the use of his legs to the point that he can no longer ride. He is 83.
He still loves HD stuff. I spent over an hour in the HD shop the other day trying to come up with the perfect something for a rider who can no longer ride, without losing my shirt in the process.
Ironically, this year I got back into riding, I now have 2 Yamahas. I wasn't sure I wanted to tell him that, he has been a HD fanatic for a long time. But he gets it that I have a non-HD budget and the Yamahas are good safe machines, and he just enjoys hearing about my "adventures". So I send letters and clippings and stuff home frequently, Mom says it perks him up.
But Christmas is coming and Im clueless. I did a HD history book earlier in the year, so I cant redo that.
They have some nice quality picture frames. I think it would be cool to get one and frame up a nice pic of the two of you or just him and give it to him. Somethin special he can remeber the good times by. Got my uncle one last year for Christmas as he as well has everything Harley you can imagine and he liked it.... JMO
See if you can find a quality picture of him on his bike and have something made with it. Kind of like what tom said. Either a large pic in a frame or maybe a plac or sand blasted glass with the image. Just some thoughts.
This was what i got for my dad 2yrs ago its been hard to top for me he loves his bikes and has nice garage so i had a 4X8 banner made up with the 4 bikes he had at the time that he really liked. Cost a pretty penny $250 bucks but hay it was the old man and i had the extra cash at the time. But
I think you find some pictures of your dad in his riding days go walmart get coffee cup or calendar made up something he can remember even better if you find some where you were young and you both were in the picture.
How about one of those digital picture frames that continually flashes a new pic every few seconds? You can download pics of you and your bike and your road trips, some pics of him and his bikes over the years too if you can find them.
I know my screensaver on my computer is fun to watch cuz I've got like 300 pics of my bike and road trips, etc.
Just go to walgreens.com and browse all the photo gifts. I think using doing something with photos of him riding or you 2 together is a good idea.
There's a bunch of good things on there.
Maybe you could line up some friends that ride and ask them if you could get some pictures of your dad with their bikes. Heck, maybe the local dealer might let you get some shots of him with bikes in the showroom. This would work out well with the earlier suggestion of the digital picture frame.

Engraved Rebellion: Inside Bundnerbike's Glam Rock II
I've been riding my whole life, but switched to HD 5 years ago and I'm on my 3rd Harley, and I believe last motorcycle, the 08 FLHX. My buddy came to work yesterday on his CANAM Spyder. I was a little jealous. For $17K he has computer controlled traction and rollover protection, automatic transmission, a trunk, and reverse, liquid cooled, and it uses small car tires. I think this company is poised to really take off in MC community (Non-HD riders of course) But for a guy who cannot ride due to loss of leg use, this bike is nearly perfect.
