Well, I know some guys feel the same way, and some feel other ways. I feel that If you can do the work to the bike your self, then buy used at an extremely cheaper price. ESPECIALLY if you plan on adding things on... you can find better stuff online, sometimes cheaper then u can from the dealer.

Of course, some people might make due with what they have (unless they NEED to sell to get the money). I want to get an Ultra, but have realized I'm going to have to wait a bit until I can find a way to sell my Sportster without taking a bath on it.

I had a 09/St.Glide on order for Mar/09 delivery, well bikes up here in Canada went up 10% so I cancelled and found a private deal on a 08 with 5500 miles 7 year extended warranty plus approx $2000.00 in chrome for $14,500 U.S.

Just this morning I picked up an '07 Dyna FXD with only 1,570 miles on it for $8,850.00 on E-bay.

Fortunately, the dealer(not a Harley dealer) who had the bike on E-bay is only about 20 minutes away, so I was able to personally inspect the bike before purchasing it.

The damn thing looks brand spankin new. I haven't been able to find as much as a scratch anywhere! It is completely stock, except for having forward controls(a good thing). In addition, in case something is not right, it has factory warranty till April of '09.

A happy used bike buyer!

I just went thru this same thought process. New or used? I figured find a bike that's 2, 3 or 4 yrs old - a Garage Queen with absurdly low mileage and go with that Vs buy new?

The prices on bikes just a few years old weren't that much lower than new and considering the advantages of new - warranty and ability to purchase extended warranty were big factors for me. Also I wanted a stock bike, not one that someone else has been messing with. I want to keep it pretty much bone stock with just a few cosmetic bling items this time and leave it at that.

I routinely log 30,000 miles a year and my bike is my primary transportation year around. With this in mind the 7 yr warranty is a Gem for my situation as I'm likely to rack up 200,000+ miles on it in that period of time. The odds of "something" having to be done repair wise are pretty significant - even if it's just a top-end job i have gotten my money back out of it.

I also liked the idea of the 6 speed transmission as I do 90% freeway commuting. I'm tired of loud exhaust so I wanted stock pipes on it.

So for me a new bike made more sense as I was only spending at most 2 or 3k more for a new bike than I would on a pre-owned bike.

I went with the '09 Road King standard and I absolutely LOVE IT!

Good luck with your search...

I would probably end up going new but I would definately check
used first, you never know what kinda deal(s) you might find.

It is a buyers market in the private sector. If you do some research I'm sure you will find a bike close to new possibly with some warranty left for a good deal. Dealers will always be higher in price, they have high overhead.
