pull the battery and have it tested, replace it if needed. when get the new battery buy a Battery tender. hook up the harness when you install the new battery. a tender is better than a charger.
If the battery voltage is too low it may not run even with a push start. I dropped a cell in my battery and you could start the bike pushing but it would only turn around 1500 rpm and then die and it is carbed.
Car batteries are 12v and so is your bike. Not sure why people are saying you shouldn't jump start with your car. Just make sure your jumper cables are attached properly.
Specific gravity (the chemical reaction in the battery) of a battery drops with the temp and time... the colder it get the weaker the battery... If you have an older battery the specific gravity is already weaker because of age...
When you charge or jump you are exciting the chemical reaction in the battery which makes the battery stronger for a while and is the reason it will start a few times, but eventually it will return to its normal state and the reason for needing a new one...
With the age of the battery I'd say you're ready for a new one...

Wal Mart has a really good Black and Decker battery tender (float charger) for $18.99. I have several of them for bikes, lawn tractor, farm equipment. They work great and really extend the life of the new battery.
You can't push start my bike!! Tried it once and 3 people almost dropped dead from exhaustion, and I wasn't one of em!

Do not have the exact # for HD's system, but for a Mallory electronic ign., voltage gets 'round 9, and you are parked. Carb or not. Need juice for FI AND the brainbox to run the ign. Not like the good (???) old days. OH, the joys of modern technology. When they run, they run GREAT, but when something goes haywire, you're DONE. No cobbling them together to git home.
