I have the yellow Sears jack and have had no problem lowering the bike gently.
I have used the jack dozens of times. mostly just to clean the bike. Twice now, in the last 2-1/2 years, I have had the bike up, on the jack, with the jack locked in place and couldn't figure how to lower it.
Normally I raise the jack just enough to unlock it, then gently lower the bike down.
I know it is something I am doing wrong. I haven't learned from my mistakes, since the second time it happened, about a year later, I couldn't remember what I had to do to get it down the first time it locked up.

The Sears red jack is Disposable. They won't even sell replacement parts for it. When mine failed after less than a year, I researched jacks to safely lift my scoots.

I found that the 2 best were the PitBull, and the J&S. I bought the J&S because I got a deal at a bike show, and I have never once looked back.

New 2008 Ultra with ABS $23,000.00
J&S Jack $350.00

Lifting the bike safely and solidly
and with no hesitation or fear.. PRICELESS

Let's SEE the pics of the SEARS jack doin' it's thang.
You wouldn't buy a scoot without 'test riding' it, SO, take your jack for a 'test ride' B4 you buy.
Heerz one of my J&S jacks out on a 'test ride'.

All the BS aside, I own 2 J&S jacks. And I have had many other jacks over the decades.
First, they work. (See above pic - that FLH is NOT tied down in any way, shape, form, kind, color or creed) And I have absolutely NO reservations putting the 10' long chopper on the J&S, and move it 'round, sit on it, pull the front end off, etc.
Second, the Boyz that build 'em, are like us, bikers. Their customer service is impeccable. They are GREAT guys to meet and visit with. On top of that, like the rest of the "Cheeseheads", they are pretty decent neighbors.
Third, QUALITY Made in America

Does that mean I think your Sears or Harbor Freight jack is junk? NO!!! I just believe from my experience, J&S, is dramatically better.

The ONLY improvement I would like to see made, is to be able to easily get a roller cart under the scoot, to permiit removal of the jack, IE: during a build, don't want to tie up the jack for eons.

Oh, yea, I use Amsoil 50w for most of the time, switch to 60w for Sturgis and HOT summer days up here (ALL 6 of them ).
Because it is SOOOPER oil? Nah, I git it for FREE from the dist. cause I wrench on his scoot for him and he pays me in earl.

Spooner is right..listen to his post. As far as all the red jack b/s..I've had that same red jack as long as I can remember, and I have had very minimal problems. It gets the job done. You can get the J&S and pay triple what you paid for your red one and still have problems. If you choose to do so..just pony up a few hundred more and get a table. Just my opinion

J & S is the most solid jack that is built. If you are satisfied with any of the other jacks that there is . . . FINE . . . I don't really care. I know from my experiences and shopping for a jack that there is no better jack available. Just my opinion.

The only part that is true is the reference to Dunlops, they really do suck!!!

I have had my red jack from sears since 2000 and have not had one issue, it gets used at least 6-8 times a year so for whatever is worth it has paid it self off so far is been great.

Man, don't let this get to you. The same thing happens on every forum I've been on. From RV's, motorcycles, trucks, cars, and the list goes on.

Seem if you don't have the same brand as someone else, it's no good or at least it's not according to them.
