I live near the Yosemite Highway (49) in central California. On any given weekend there are 59+/- bikes that come through town, mostly HD's. As long as your cool and don't do something stupid, you won't have any problems with the local Sheriff.
We ended up in the same riders edge course, that was a funny story for him to tell why he was there and then for me to say I was the cop that wrote the ticket.
I don't understand, were you teaching the course????
While at Sturgis, I was pulled over at 3 AM doing 5 under the limit on my FXSTC. Then the nice man told me I went through a stop sign. Let me go when he determined that I was not on drugs and booze. But I had over ate.
Nope...not here ...doing a ride in a couple of weeks to benefit the burn foundation that is headed up by a chief of police of a small town. I think the only people that have problems with LEOs are the people that should.
OHH what a difference 30 years makes. All the lawyers, doctors & cops on bikes have really changed the attitude. I've been riding up and down Hwy 50 between Tahoe and Sac for 20 years and had a CHP roll up on me on my hot rod EVO back in 95. Thought for sure he was gonna roll me for my Thunderheader and doing 80mph, but he just waived and gassed it! I still run into him and one other CHP every now & then. They clear the way and we roll up or down that hill at 95mph! They both got some big huevos cause they'll split traffic at 80mph. I've seen em split two big rigs at that speed! They have to know I'm doing 100mph to catch em when they do that cause I ain't gonna split vehicles at that speed. Guess they figure the blue lights will save em! I was rolling down the hill at 0400 a couple months back and I saw the familiar dual BMW headlights in my mirror. Figured it was one of the CHP but he turned out to be Folsom city cop. He passed me doing about 85mph so I just stayed behind him. He got locked up behind a car in the #1 lane down in the flats so I rolled over to the #3 and went to pass him. He got on the loudspeaker and told me not to push my luck. Guess he didn't want to get passed cause he was OK with me rolling back behind him and following at 80+... If you really love riding, it's all fun!
Me and another rider and our old ladies stopped at a quick stop in Sedan, Kansas one hot afternoon just this last summer. We were there for about 45 minutes cooling off and taking in some refreshments. Before we left we pulled out to the gas pumps to top up and saw that the store was no surrounded by the cops. Which consisted of the entire police force of two. They were parked on opposite sides of the parking lot facing us, and watching us. After we gassed up, we got an escort out of town. They never said anything to us and never pulled us over, just made sure that the mean old bikers didnt rape any of their children while we were in town. I guess it was ok for us to spend some money though.
Thats really the only time I have had any negetive response from cops, but like mentioned earlier, these are different times.

With only 1 exception, every cop that's spoken to me just wanted to look at my bike. I thought I was being followed by cop cars on a few separate occassions, but they were probably also just checking out the bike (perhaps looking for a reason to pull me over for a closer look?). I've had cops waiting for me in a parking lot at least 3 different times so they could ask me about it. I guess cops just like Harley's out here.
