Usually they'll wave my way before I have a chance to wave first. I had a friend a while back that bought a brand new BMW. When he picked it up he hopped on the freeway to take it home and was surprised when a CHP pulled up next to him and motioned for him to slow down. He looked down at his speedo and realized he was doing almost 90mph. He slowed down, the LEO smiled at him, gave him a thumbs up and took off. That's when my friend noticed the LEO was riding a BMW also.
cops have always been polite to me...i get the wave and the nod...NJ, PA and VT...no problem...i wonder if they would be less kind if i had all sorts of tatoos, skulls and patches on etc...dont know...
No problems here in San Diego either. If you're being stupid of course or obnoxious pipes that's another story. But as said a big percentage of cops ride Harleys and they know the problem isn't with guys on cruisers its the Power Rangers hot-******* around who are the problem.
I'm friends with a couple of motor officers. Both of them have told me that 99% of the problems they have with bikes are crotch rocketeers doing stupid $hit. Here in Georgia, the exhaust law requires only a "functioning sound muffler" so there's not much in the way of noise ordinance hassling. I've passed and pulled alongside countless motor officers, and never gotten more than an occasional nod or wave.
Yeah, first post. Reading mail about a year. Had to chime in. H-D riders and police generally have good relationship in this area. Lots of Police Road Kings on the street and many officers also own personal H-D bikes. No problem if you ride halfway civilized. Crotch rockets is a different matter as many tend to create their own problems. It's not that they ride or what they ride, but, how they ride. In general it seems that cruiser/tourer riders get a bit more slack than the average motorist. When you do meet officers on motors most will answer the wave or give a head nod.
One group of local motor officers devote some of their off-duty time to offer safe rider training for civilian riders. One of those officers recently lost his own life while on his police motor proceeding to escort a funeral procession, and only 100 yards from his destination. A young lady drove her car across 6 lanes of busy traffic and struck the officer's bike. You guessed it; following the collision she said "but I didn't see him." If motorists can't see a fully dressed and marked police M/C, God help the rest of us. Ride safe. Ride smart.
I moved to a small midwest town from a major east coast city about 9 years ago. imho the pigs here are god awefull. never in my life have I ever had more run ins with the cops than I have here. they spend more time setting up their elaborate traffic stops and speed traps at quota time than bothering to try and catch the people that are breaking into cars and garages in my neighborhood (my wifes car and mine twice, stole my daughters bicycle from the driveway- I hope one day I catch them in the act) I have been pulled over in my car and on my old yamaha 750 for absolutely nothing. It seems like the cops in this town are nothing more than a tool to create revenue. I have absolutely no respect for them at all.

Couldn't be maybe some attitude on your part...quoting "imho the pigs" that bring some of the trouble down on you maybe?
