I get so tired of hearing idiots say Harleys are so far behind the times when it comes to power and torque. Tell me, how much power do you need to kill yourself? My scoot is plenty powerful and fast enough for me to do exactly that, I sure as hell don't need any more. P.S. I have yet to see a speed limit I couldn't break, and i'm doing it on the most comfy, stylish and popular motorcycle brand in the world, enough said.
+1 - This is the main difference between Harley riders and the other bikes on the market. It does not mean that one is better than the other. Personal preference is the key. Like you I didn't buy my bike to have the braging rights to say that is is the fastest bike in the country. I bought my bike to enjoy the ride! I could give a rats azz that another bike passes me doing 100mph or over. I own a Harley Davidson and I'm proud to do so!!
I think it boils down to this, if a person buys a particular thing, car, motorcycle, whatever , he feels a need to validate the purchase to himself. If he is insecure he needs to validate the purchase to others. If he is insecure and thinks he has bought an inferior product he feels the need to criticize other people for buying something different than what he bought, some times to the point of going onto forum boards and bashing a particular brand.
Yah, you and a lot of other posters got it right. Peeps can tell an industry or company if they want something different and the industry will respond with product changes IF it makes sense or... peeps can flippin' go buy something else.
Pickups, dog food, sidearms, corn flakes, scoots.... I might flip-flop among brands for most stuff, but my Harley is right where it needs to be for me, thank you!
I'm sure most of us could go on another forum and rial everyone up puttin up a false front and bitchin about the bike. we don't. at least i don't. would much rather debate how good something is compared to it's imagined faults.
If i compare my current harleys to the ones i've owned in the past (back to 68) i could keep positive statements flowing in a forum for weeks about technology, reliability, attention to detail, etc.
don't need no stinkin metric
+1 big sled
Coolest thing I like about HD is that I CAN get the basically the same bike I fell in love with back in the 60's.Chevy don't have 57 Bel airs anymore, but HD still has Sportsters! And I love that.My Superglide is another I dug since the 70's.I don't like a lot of change.
The days of me running 120+ mph on the freeway are long gone. I really don't need to race anyone on a bike or cager from light to light either. I have been there and done that and it's out of my system. Or lets just say I out grew it a long time ago. I am 52 and I ride a Harley for 2 reasons. First, I can afford it and secondly because I want too. I did not compare it to other manufacturers specs in any way. I bought a Harley because I wanted a Harley. It was pretty simple decision for me.
Heck the stroker Harleys we built back in the 70's were plenty fast to kill our young foolish selves ..
..
I was thinking the exact same thing. When I moved from a Sporty to a 74ci Panhead I thought I would never need more. Then I rode my cousin's stroked Shovelhead and it was like riding the wind. Now with 96ci and a 6 speed my Ultra is the baddest bike I could ask for ( well at least till it becomes 103ci )
And as to why you need all that speed. Didn't you see the movie Hell Ride. Had the black dude had a 110" motor he could have outran the "bad guys" instead of taking an arrow in the back!
I think a Gold Wing could do that quite easily and then some
I have to disagree! I rode a GW 2 miles once and could not wait to get off it. Maybe if I was a midget it would of been comfy, but at 6'2" and 260# no GW in the world would fit me. My FLHTCU and FXDC do fine.
I've got no problems with Harleys speed or comfort or LOOKS. As a matter of fact I've got no problems with Harleys at all . I guess that I'm just EASY!
