Riding to work
Biggest concern for me is bridges, (they tend to keep ice even when the rest of the roads are dry).
I've also always had a fear of having an accident on a cold day, and sliding into a ditch and laying there freezing to death..... I know thats kinda morbid, but I have this fear of dieing cold (probably resulting from all the hypothermia cases I've had to deal with in the Coast Guard).
I still ride though; I think I'm just a little "extra" careful when its cold.

Likewise, if you have frozen ground, or sustained COLD (our COLD), the highway itself, gets 'slickery' due to COLD. Use caution braking and cornering.
But if you are hitting 60's in the daytime, like I said, not much of a 'threat' to you.
Doesn't your scoot have 'defrosters' on it?

Switch the 'Air temp' gauge out for a themostat. Install small Hot Dawg heater in trunk, heat duct to your jacket. Good to GO.
NOW do you know what 'azzless chaps' iz 4?
THEY WORK!!!Bridges 'ice up' sooner because they are surrounded on all sides by the COLD temps. Regular roadway has the relatively warm ground underneath.

I leave the house around 5:00am and if your doing under 70, they'll run over your ***! Doing 70 is fine but when it's 28 degrees out, that's another story.
Going home (like you said) is just miserable. People are leaving DC to go home to either Maryland or Va. and it's crazy. Bumper to bumper traffic, cutting in front of you without using turn signals, etc... just isn't worth the headache nor safety risk. Especially when the high is in the 30's.
Ride Safe...
