Exactly; the sheild did. Someone on this thread, said; they make a sheild for cold weather riding.

I rode to work this morning (32 degrees), it was a little bit nippy. I wish I had worn better socks!

Biggest concern for me is bridges, (they tend to keep ice even when the rest of the roads are dry).

I've also always had a fear of having an accident on a cold day, and sliding into a ditch and laying there freezing to death..... I know that’s kinda morbid, but I have this fear of dieing cold (probably resulting from all the hypothermia cases I've had to deal with in the Coast Guard).

I still ride though; I think I'm just a little "extra" careful when it’s cold.

+1.. It is natural to have fear, that is what keeps us alive and not a statistic.

Don't believe it is really a threat to you down there. But saw COLD TIRES mentioned. They have less grip when cold, obvious.
Likewise, if you have frozen ground, or sustained COLD (our COLD), the highway itself, gets 'slickery' due to COLD. Use caution braking and cornering.
But if you are hitting 60's in the daytime, like I said, not much of a 'threat' to you.
Doesn't your scoot have 'defrosters' on it?
Switch the 'Air temp' gauge out for a themostat. Install small Hot Dawg heater in trunk, heat duct to your jacket. Good to GO.

NOW do you know what 'azzless chaps' iz 4? THEY WORK!!!

Bridges 'ice up' sooner because they are surrounded on all sides by the COLD temps. Regular roadway has the relatively warm ground underneath.

One thing I notice is a small loss of overall dexterity due to the multiple layers of clothes and cold. Have had a couple adrenaline moments coming to a stop after being in the cruising position for awhile.

I hear ya Hyper!

I leave the house around 5:00am and if your doing under 70, they'll run over your ***! Doing 70 is fine but when it's 28 degrees out, that's another story.

Going home (like you said) is just miserable. People are leaving DC to go home to either Maryland or Va. and it's crazy. Bumper to bumper traffic, cutting in front of you without using turn signals, etc... just isn't worth the headache nor safety risk. Especially when the high is in the 30's.

I'm in Memphis also(Collierville actually). I rode in the morning as well. It was about 35 when I left the house. A jacket, chaps and gauntlet gloves and I was good to go. Good protective clothing makes all the difference. I'm by the airport as well and yeah the ride home sucks with these yahoo's.

I ride with it in 20's to low 40's everyday. Cool riding in the morning, but can't beat 50's to low 70's in the afternoon.

Your right, it's not as much an issue as it would be up north a little ways. We most of the time have fairly mild winters here in the Mempho area. So far, no snow at all just to much rain and temps a little colder than normal.

Tire issue, I was very carfull this morning, because someone mentioned the cold tire issue.

Have a good day.
