Heck , I can't even imagine having pegs under my feet again , think it's unreal that the new goldwings have pegs...... on a bike designed to go several hundred miles a day.

+1 on that

Biped... that's the beauty of Harley's. You can set it up however suits your fancy. It also depends on what style of Harley your into. I have floorboards which plant my foot in a position I like and I can put hiway pegs on my engine guard to stick my feet up.
I think sickwithit showed a great example of what you seem to prefer.

Hope you find the bike that fits your preferences and join the Harley club soon!

I prefer forward pegs, as do most of the people who ride Harleys.

if you want to ride on a bar stool position, keep your sport bike. If you want to ride on reclining comfortable couch, get a Harley touring bike
If you want to get more *** than a toilet seat, you definatly need to get a HARLEY

I definitely go against the normal Harley crowd.
I, like you, like my feet under me more. There are times hitting the back roads or taking an off ramp I like to get off my Harley just like on my sport bike.
I also don't like the pressure it puts on my lower back to have them out forward.
The Night Train wasn't built for a really tall guy and even at only 6' it is a little tight in the foot area. Which for me works out well. I can scoot forward a bit when getting agressive and can use the pegs a bit.
A lot of guys talk about cruising a Harley and then we have guys with 120" kits putting out huge HP/TQ so they can go slow, whatever.
Definitely check out all the lines of HD, you may just find one that suits your riding style and positions.

Behind you in a sport bike configuration, I would say you do, but I don't ride sport bikes any more.
In general I would agree with this. However. there is no real need to shift weight on a Harley and even if you did, the bike would simply laugh at you anyway because of its own weight. On the other hand, with my sportbike and dirt bike weight transfer makes a huge difference. Put a knee into the tank or more pressure on one peg or the other and you can steer the bike to some extent. If you want to pop up out of a turn you can use the throttle while countersteering or use the throttle, countersteer and shift some weight popping up even factser to set up for the next set of twisties. Agreed, they are two different types of machines and the needs of one simply don't exist with the other.

The Sportster and the Dynas have the English controls like used to come on the Triumphs, etc, and was copied by the (cough) imports.

At 6'6", 38" inseam, there ain't enough room 'underneath' for my landing gear. Without fwd controls, I usualy look like a "primate making whoopie to a pigskin".

The vast majority of ppl, cannot reach the bars, seat and pegs, on the chop, ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Yet I can literally 'lay down' for a change in riding position. There is a down side, tho, with a hardtail, your butt/back absorb all the blows. Cannot 'pick your weight up' off the seat for those BIG un's.

Momma has LONG legs for a woman, here's her 'stretch' for the pegs. Note: her toes barely reach the pegs, let alone the shifter or brake.
