Default does anybody still do black chrome???

It could just be that it is Sunday, or that I am in Vegas. But I just spent 1/2 a day on the web and roaming the phone book looking for a plater that does black chrome plating. Nada. I may have to search nationwide and ship if I have to. But I will have black chrome on my tubes. Anybody out there know someone doing black chrome?

I worked for a powder coater a few years back and I remember we did a modified frame in black chrome. It looked really good, you might want to check into maybe getting it powder coated black chrome if you can't find anybody to do real chrome.

Black chrome anything is pretty much hard to find. Could never figure that out.
I've been looking for something as simple as a black chrome acorn nut, and there seem to be none...anywhere.
Maybe we should start a company.

I dont think Powder coating would work on the tubes. Sliders yes but tubes I would be a little leary. Maybe JRK could chimie in or one of the platers / powdercoaters.

Call Impress Plating in Upland CA. 1 800 4 CHR WHL. Ask for Humberto. They are on ebay and I just bought a set od chrome 9 spoke wheels. His work is awesome and I have seen some good and bad chrome jobs over the years.
Anyway He will do black chrome because I was going to get my wheels in Blk chrome for $65 more.
He is very knowledgeable and said that most people that get black chrome done, come back in a few years and have them redone in bright chrome, because it tends to oxidize and dull up kind of like gun blue. But check him out, he is not too teribly far from you. Good luck.

The problem with real black chrome is that it's not really suitable for other than show vehicles. Once it water spots, it's permanant. One of the largest Corvette aftermarket places that I deal with sells a ton of black chrome pieces, and they all have the same disclaimer that they are not for use on street driven cars. Look up the Yamaha "Midnight Special" fiasco from 1980-1981. They had the original "dark customs" - all black paint, black pc'd engine, black chrome front end, exhaust, and miscellaneous highlights, and gold trim. They were beautiful bikes, but short lived because of all the warranty claims on the black chrome. "Black chrome" powdercoat gives pretty much the same look w/o the problems associated with the real thing, but may not be suitable for fork tubes.
