This post highlites the crux of the problems with our economy today...No one cares if thier neighbor has a job or not. Its all about ME, ME, ME. No other country in the world acts as we do. Its shameful, and down right disgusting.

Talk about suicide, even Harley would die.....
The bad news is its already happening have you seen HD stock lately?
Most people that have bought Harleys had good credit and were capable of paying for it until the economy tanked and layoffs started.

Not because the hype the media is pouring out about bad loans. The reason is the jobs losses impact more than the people that lose them but the support people below them too.

Think about how many people you help support daily. Every thing you purchase effects someone around you if you stop buying then they can't pay their way.

My point is how good a deal are you really getting if by supporting companies that do business by cutting American jobs. Your neighbors lose their jobs. How long will it take before you lose yours.

I'm retired from and now do consulting for a Dutch global conglomerate. China is the current focal point for all growth and expansion plans. I visit periodically, most recently last November in Shanghai. One of the real basic differences between Americans and Chinese:

Ask an American what his priorities are, he'll probably say something like "Family, ME, religion, country."

Ask a Chinese what his/her priorities are, the answer is invariably "China" first, then whatever else follows.

I agree that the people are nice -- I have several really good friends over there -- but they are universally loyal to China FIRST. That's why China will overtake the US as the largest economy in the world within the next 20 years. India is projected to overtake the US soon after, so at best we'll be in 3rd place...

Sadly like Harley riders (e.g., those who like to **** off neighbors with loud pipes), I really believe my fellow Americans in general are their own worst enemies!

I see alot of whining and crying about lost jobs and outsourcing (pretty much seems too be what the American work excels at these days!) You want to fix it get rid of the unions they are ruining the economy as well as the low life politcians that are in there pockets. RANT OVER!!

For the record, I hate going to Walmart and almost never go there. Still, it's very hard to avoid purchasing items manufactured in China. Anyone remember this news story about the family who boycotted Chinese made products for a year? http://www.reuters.com/article/reute...070628?sp=true

We have not shopped at WalMart since it opened, we did go in a few times and found almost nothing American made and figured screw it. Fortunatly we are able to do most of our shopping at Sears, Penny's, and Macy's, but even then you have to watch the labels and be willing to pay a little more. Cause as has been said if you keep saving 25 cents by not buying American eventually it is going to cost an American their job.

The thing that suprises me most is since we still are the worlds only remaining military superpower how we can let manufacturing slip. Seems we helped to win WWII simply on the strength of our manufacturing ability. That part is very scary indeed.

Yeah and while there are so many doing poorly Wal Mart is doing well and reported earnings as opposed to losses. That in effect keeps their American work force in a job.... I have no problem at all buying at Wal mart.

I don't remember hearing about this but thanks for posting that. It's pretty interesting. The book might be worth a look too.

The Chinese stuff is so poor quality and I don't trust them one bit that anything they sell me isn't loaded with dangerous poisons.

I don't have any problem buying stuff from foreign countries but the stuff from China is the worst. Problem is you can't buy much that isn't made in China anymore. Look at shoes. Just about every single one is china made.

I wonder if it is just that the dollar has become worthless with government borrowing money like there was no tomorrow that Chinese mad ecrap is all we can afford. Furniture store chain that specialized in European furniture around where I live went belly up due to currency exchange rates.

Harley helmets are made in china or korea right? I buy Italian helmets. Not that they are any better in quality but they look a hell of a lot better.
