I agree with all of the above. Eye contact tells me thay are looking my way not that they see me. I also watch the front wheels to see if they are rolling. Whenever I can I change to the outside lane using my signals to increase visibility and time if they do something stupid. Last week I had a cager pull up to a stop where I was turning. He never looked my way, just rolled up to the sign and started to go through. By the time he saw me I was stopped on his passenger side and looking in his window. First I used the horn and then the pipes to make sure he noticed me. I think he may have been worried about what I might do next. Probably a good thing. [>:] You can't be to carefull.
Although you can't stop morons from pulling out in front of you, my technique to judge their intentions are to watch their eyes and the roll of their front tire. I can usually get an idea if they are itching to pull out and slow accordingly to prepare for evasive actions.

Watching the front tire on a car with those spinning wheel covers can make you think they are not stopped. I hope those wheels get outlawed!
A lot of good advice here, and i thank you all for it. Yes, it looks like i had a lucky escape, ive only got 95miles on the clock, it would have been a real shame to bend my beautiful new machine. I am definately going to enrol on a course. Im from england, i dont think we have a msf course here, i will make enquiries concerning an english equilvalent. Thank you friends for your valuable advice.
IMO the worst part is behind you. Yes you will learn a lot from a rider course. You will find however, that your reactions will be instinctive every time. Honing your skills will help you control what your instinct makes you do.
If you can't find a MSF course where you are, you might want to hang with experienced riders whose judgement and maturity you trust. Do not overextend yourself - ever! There is a different learning curve for everyone - know yours. Having said that, enjoy the ride!
