My wife's been on the Omni Pod for about 2 years now, it's worked out pretty well. The biggest problem was getting through to someone at BC/BS who would approve the Pod and the equipment. Not cheap, but a whole lot better than 4-5 shots a day + the necessary finger sticks.
I had bypass surgery in July 08 that fulfilled all my deductables so my pump was free plus all supplies free until this coming Oct. Then the usual copay thru BCBS.
damn, my blood sugar stays as high as 400 at times usually dont get below 280, and that is on the max meds (pills). The doc tried to put me on shots and I told him I am fine with the pills , dont threathen me, I pay you. so I stayed on the pills.
Once you start insulin and see your blood sugars come down AND you start to feel so much better....then you'll kick yourself in the *** for not doing it sooner. I once swore I would never take shots too..Stick around a while man...

Damn, so165, you`re playin' with fire with Blood Sugar that high. Just my .02cts worth...
had it for 15 years! wrecked my company truck 8 years ago and went on the pump and loved it! unfortunatly my insurance sucks and can't afford my share of the supplies I need for the pump so I am back to injecting myself 5 times a day! (it sucks when in the hard financial times the only thing I can cut back to save money is heath related!)
Yea been on insulin for 20 years. I struggled from time to time , until I saw a very wise MD. First thing he told me is "Don't let diabetes control you, YOU control the diabetes." There is nothing I can't do, Just carry my bag of "goodies" eat on time, and I always carry a sugar "hit" with me just in case.
One road trip we were in the saddle for 13 hours the first day, went fine.
Most important thing I do is take the time to tell EVERYBODY I ride with, is that I am diabetic and ask them to watch out for symptoms of low sugar, it only takes a few minutes and most people are interested about the condition.
Been a type II for over 12 years now. No problems with riding, since I take pills for it. My Doc says it will probably get worse in the future. I'll go for the pump when this happens. Right now it's under control.
I was the same way was traveling down south and my blood went to 600 and was told that you may not make it. The next 24 hours will tell the story but you need to be prepared to meet the big ride in the sky
Don't play with your life to many rides left the shots or the pump are not bad

I was like exactly like that up until a few years ago. Working and too busy to monitor myself. Now I'm frequently on testing and shots. The result from not taking good care of it now is kidney disease, and a whole host of muscular problems. I'm a science project now for my doctors. I have 4 kids and am 50 years old and my health sucks. But I'm working on it everyday.
Get it under control now buddy or you will pay for it later..believe me please.

In all seriousness, you need to listen to your doc. The consequences of running a blood glucose of 300-400 long term are dismal.
You're not going to be riding if you're blind. Or have no feet.
