Default Classic left turn in front of motorcycle

I have ABS on my Road King because this was the bike that was available and got a good deal for the option. Today I had the classic left turn in front of me driver must have been 80 and the passenger looked to be older. It was close enough that auto behind driver put her hand to her face and her mouth did the “O” WTF is this person doing. I applied a lot of brake front and rear ABS kicked in the rear from lightening up applying a lot of front braking. In the end, besides me cursing an uneventful event, bike tracked perfectly.

I like ABS what I did today would usually take more time in the saddle to be done well. I have owned this bike for five weeks and put 2600 miles on her. I slowed her down like I have been riding it for many years. Been riding for 32 plus years and maybe would have had the same results without ABS, but maybe not.

Now I have to check my rear even more knowing how fast this bike can haul down to nothing.
BTW I have practiced panic braking in a parking lot, nothing like the real thing to let you know what can really be done.

It is great that you avoided disaster, I don't have abs and the last time I locked the brake down the rear tried to pass the front, but I managed to keep it under control and avoid disaster myself. I am always up for more practice, but rarely make time for it.

Good for you. ABS is the only thing not on my bike that I wish was there. Well, maybe a little more chrome or horses.

Good job Eric, makes you mad but you get to live to ride another day. I have "tested" the ABS a few times now and like it more and more.

Miles on the saddle is the most important but ABS allowed me to brake like I had a lot of miles on the saddle. Not happy about it but at least I have my first near miss out of the way, I know it's not the last.

Thanks guys and yes I get to ride another day .

Funny you said about the other driver giving the WTF look. I had almost the exact same thing happen to me last fall and all the other drivers were grabbing their hair or covering their faces waiting for the impact. I locked the rear tire on the Sporty and rode it out, missing the rear bumper of a mini van by about 6 inches. Like you said, nothing like the real thing to make you see what you actually got.

Good luck on your near miss. I wish I had the ABS, too, but keep my eyes moving to make sure the WTF moments are minimized.

Good job Eric, you did well and the ABS showed you what it can do!
