If it is backfiring out the exhaust you are either too lean or too rich or like said before you have an exhaust leak. One question: were the exhaust gaskets replaced with new ones when the new pipes were installed. They are crush gaskets and are only good for one seal. This is a common error lots of guys make. Easily solved. You may want to check the exhaust flange bolts on the cyl heads to be sure they are tight as well as any clamps in the system.
If your bike is EFI then have the dealer check the ECM to see if there is a map loaded that is not the factory map. (5 minute job). If you have slip on exhaust and they are leaking from where the muffler bolts to the pipe you can seal that with permatex copper high heat gasket sealer from autozone for about $8. Very easy.
Also check your exhuast flange bolts/nuts. May want to run an injector cleaner, such as "Seafoam, mixed in proper ratio with your gas. Make sure the mix ratio is followed
Im not sure when the pipes were put on. I bought the bike as it is and I havent done any mods to it since have picked it up. The bike has about 9,600 miles. I will check the gaskets and bolts and see if that does the trick. Thanks for all the tips. This is my first bike so im sure there will be many more questions.
