Default Went 2-up/first time this weekend

Well, not a virgin anymore. I finally convinced the wife to get on the bike with me.
Everything went pretty smooth on Saturday. Also had her ride with me on Sunday. Was very windy in the Chicago area. She was worried the wind was going to blow the bike over. Told her not to worry. Wind was blowing so hard at 55mph, right up my nose making it hard to breath.

Just letting the wife experience some fun and get a feel for riding before we take some longer rides.

How was your experience for the first time you went 2-up?

Dan

[sm=americanasmiley.gif]Great for you. I really enjoy my wife riding with me! She loves to ride, still has some concerns, but is doing great. Every ride is good. Speaking of the wind a couple weeks ago wife and I got into some wind and I will be real truthful with you, it was a battle. Thankful we made it and the experience was probably good for us. We are planning several long trips and are trying to experience everything now on our terms, as much as possible, before hand. We rode this past weedend in some light rain, wasn't bad, but wife didn't really like it. She got cold and that made her want to tense up. I think I will get her a better rain suit and that will take care of it.[sm=biker2.gif]

Thanks, HarleyFan. My wife says she loves riding now. She used to ride with her old boyfriends when she was in her teens.

I need to get raingear also. Any recommendations on what type to buy, or not buy?

Thanks,
Dan

Not to sound like a salesman, but remember that you get what you pay for---especially with Raingear!

I think I was more nervous than she was! It was fine for me to go 80+ on the highway or somewhat push my limits with speed on curves and such, but when SHE was with me I suddenly had butterflys about an accident. I guess it's ok if I egg-splat my own head, but to have her get hurt.....

Now the "nerbous butterflys" are gone, but it's still a thrill for her to ride with me ---and I don't have to take tight curves or go fast to experience it.

It went great! Rode two up for the first time fro Phx to Tucson to visit her mother who was in the hospital (She knew we were both crazy so didn't bat an eye). We had no issues all the way down there and I dropped the bike in the hospital parking lot with her still on it.

Lots of nasty words went through my mind and out of my mouth. I dinged my ride just a bit but I was sure I scared her off from riding with me any more. No chance! She dusted herself off and asked it I was ok with a big grin on her face.

Now we go on breakfast rides on Sunday and have taken a trip to Prescott Az (the long way) and we will be going to Northern AZ in May for a over nighter! Life is good!

Biggest thing About 2-up is to think of there comfort. I put the biggest backrest on (but made sure to get the detachable) she loves it know. Michael

Break them in easy as they will come back for more. If you scare them they may get on the bike again but may never be comfortable!!!

My wife is usually nervous about alot of things, but when it came to riding she could'nt wait to give it a try. That was 21 years ago aboard my Suzuki GS750. Many many many moons later we started renting HD's and she just simply caught "the fever" in a bigger way than I would have ever expected. She doesn't give a rat's a$$ about riding her own bike. Just wants to enjoy the scenery with me as pilot. I've got to admit, I was nervous the first time she got on our first HD rental. It had been about 10 years since my last ride and the thought of dumping her on the pavement scared the s**t out of me. Well, much ado 'bout nuthin". It was a perfect day. And every rental since then moved us closer to getting our own bike. We take delivery of our FLHTCI in a few days.

I'm thinking you need to do something about the passenger seat and backrest. Just imagine how it would feel to you sitting on that skinny little butt pad and having that cute little backrest jabbing you in the lower part of your back. If the mrs. ain't happy, noone is.
