I like to wear the lightest weight helmet I can find. I have arthritis in my neck and the weight factor is a real issue now. If I go on a long ride with a full helmet I will have blinding headaches and intense neck pain.

I wear a novelty helmut with a 6" crack in the back of it from when I hit the deer...hey I fixed it with gorilla glue and black nail polish...LOL. I just can't do the mushroom thing because it makes me look like the great gazoo from the flintstones...http://www.newsgroper.com/files/post...azoobig(1).jpg

As a side note (and excuse the thread hijack), I don't get why some folks want to wear a "German helmet"? This was originally done by returning vets from WWII...you know, wearing their war trophies. I doubt seriously if there are any WWII vets around still riding with those helmets. They earned them. If anything, I'd think a "real Harley biker" would want to wear a vintage WWII helmet of Japanese origin. I can't tell you how many times I see/hear "Jap crap; ricer, @#$% Japs, etc" used as slang defamatory lingo. Following that logic, we should wear a Japanese helmet to show them they are vanquished, and we are the victors claiming and displaying our spoils as we triumphantly ride our American iron (well, technically, it's an American owned company, but our bikes are more Japanese/other than American)! Yea, that's it, that's the ticket! Hey...Most motorcycle helmets are made in Japan, including the Harley branded helmets. So, logically, are we showing those Japs our domination by wearing their manufactured motorcycle helmets? There's some pretzel logic for ya!
Personally, I always look at those that wear a German style helmet as the real posers...they are just trying so hard to be what they think a biker should be...it's really kind of sad, especially since most don't know the history behind it. They don't know (or care) why they wear them, or the history...just that it's supposed to be cool, 'cause somebody told them it's cool, or they want to be cool too! Anyhow, I know my comments may be controversial, and I have thick skin and a flame suit. Sorry in advance if I offended anyone. Bottom line...wear what you want, it's your head, your life, your image, and your psyche...feed it anyway you want. Personally, I'm going to go get on my Harley (Tm) Ultra, and go for a ride!
