Default Why the hell

Man o Man I did something stupid ! About a month ago my starter
quit working so I figgered that the starter was gone. I done about
every kind of test that I could do, I looked for shorts, I tested the
battery, I tried to figger it out. My engine is 10.5:1 compression so
I though that is what burnt my starter up because it was working
so hard to start the engine. I finley gave up and bought the HD high
preformance starter. While I was changing the starter out I put some
duct tape on the starter cable to prevent sparking. After swaping
starters I tried to take the tape off and the conector came off with
the tape. I put another end on the cable now every thing is fine except
the high preformance starter spins the engine a lot better than the
stock starter did. I could have saved $424.00 If I had have had the
stock starter checked "before" I got the new starter. The stock starter
is just fine. Why the hell do I feel so good about doing something so
stupid

An expensive lesson. At least you benefited in a way. You may have never learned this lesson if you didn't do the work yourself, but you probably would have still paid for the new starter.

Stupid is as stupid does at least you found the problem on your own. Look at the money you saved on labor

I think we've all done things that would be considered lessons learned the hard way

It's amazing how often the cables are overlooked when there are starting problems. I guess we have a tendency to take them for granted.

keep the starter. If you ever have a problem you can swap it back. It won't rot on the shelf.
