Man o Man I did something stupid ! About a month ago my starter
quit working so I figgered that the starter was gone. I done about
every kind of test that I could do, I looked for shorts, I tested the
battery, I tried to figger it out. My engine is 10.5:1 compression so
I though that is what burnt my starter up because it was working
so hard to start the engine. I finley gave up and bought the HD high
preformance starter. While I was changing the starter out I put some
duct tape on the starter cable to prevent sparking. After swaping
starters I tried to take the tape off and the conector came off with
the tape. I put another end on the cable now every thing is fine except
the high preformance starter spins the engine a lot better than the
stock starter did. I could have saved $424.00 If I had have had the
stock starter checked "before" I got the new starter. The stock starter
is just fine. Why the hell do I feel so good about doing something so
stupid
An expensive lesson. At least you benefited in a way. You may have never learned this lesson if you didn't do the work yourself, but you probably would have still paid for the new starter.
