Worry about dumping the bike? Not at all. I'd just step off of it and let it fall. IF the bike is on it's side the guy has to try and pick it up. Can't say what I'd do after that. Probably wouldn't be too popular. But hey, I am none too popular now.

I'm of the opinion that the victim in this case probably saved his own life when he ran for it on his bike. If the gunman was crazy enough to shoot at him while he was fleeing, I suspect the victim would have been shot the instant he got off of his bike.
