I just bought a 09 FX 1200C. I pick it up in a couple weeks. I have never really paid much attention to alarm systems for bikes untill looking into a new Harley. My question is this. Is the Key Fob type alarm system really necessary for my new bike? It's stock not like some of the bikes I see around, it's parked in a garage, I do have good insurance. What do you all think?
My '08 came with factory security, which disables the bike if someone tries to operate it without the fob in proximity. But all it does as a warning is flash the hazards. The siren is an over the counter add on to the factory SS.
I like the system because you can leave the key in your pocket, hop on, fire it up and go. I would recommend it, but you know best if the benefit outweighs the cost in your situation.
I don't care for the basic security system, if I had the choice I would not get it.
You can use a security code if you don't want to carry the fob. You can also leave the key behind if you don't want to lock the bike. You could leave the fob on the bike if you like.
