I wouldn't touch an ironhead with a 10 foot pole unless you are an excellent mechanic and are in good physical shape. Love mine, will never sell it, ride it nearly every week but I have pushed it more than once too. You didn't post a price but I bet that you could get a used EVO sporty for the same amount.
Better get all the specifics on the title before buying. I would talk to someone at your local courthouse so you will know what to expect when it comes to get tags for it. I got quite a shock when I titled my used Road king and I don't mean just the price of the tags.
You could buy a $4k or $5k later 2000ish model and put less money in it to make it look exactly like that old dinosaur. You will certainly find parts a lot easier and have less "issues" with a later model.
remember. the 70s were the AMF years and a dark spot in harley history and quality
$8750, wow, I'll sell you a 1994 Springer with a new engine for less than that and it has a title. You can get a hell of a lot of bike for that money right now if you do a little looking. If you are set on old iron I saw a 1981 FLH with 20K on the clock for $6500/bo last week.
