ive had it only a few weeks, haven't even made the first payment yet... but after reading a lot of forum material, it occurred to me that there are a lot of people who have found... irregularities... regarding their new bike... or after gettin it back from service... for example, they are doing something on their bike and discover that one front fork tube is low on oil and the other is almost dry... or the rear wheel is out of alignment...or a bolt was cross threaded at the factory/ dealer... makes me wonder what, if anything, may be wrong with mine? how would i know or rather, what should i look for? how much of these problems are due to factory or due to dealer? does the dealer have to do anything to a bike, put it together, add oil, etc? i plan on having the dealer do the 1,000 mile service... will they find anything funny? would they tell me if they did? this is my second harley, my first was a sportster, and i have to say i never experienced ANY of the problems reported by others, it was a nice bike, fit and finish was excellent... my new fatbob was bought and same dealer and seems, so far, to be an equally excellent machine, but this my dream bike and so i worry bout it... any thoughts?
it happens all too often. if it happened with ford or chevy with this kind of regularity, it would be front page news and people would be screaming bloody murder.
harley gets a pass because of the "harley legend". harley (and the dealers) need to step up to the plate because there are a lot of non harley bikes comming down the pike that are starting to give credence to the saying "a harley is half the bike for twice the money"
The biggest problem I've seen is the dealer working on your bike and hoping/praying they don't scratch the hell out of it while they have it. Unfortunatley too many techs treat your bike like it's a '73 Pinto and scratch(or worse) the crap out if it. Learn to do as much as you can so you won't have to take it to the dealer.
WOW, I have never gotten out of this forum the gross or rampant issues you are with reference. And whtih problems there two side to each story. Alot of these issues as mentioned previously are issues of trying to make a Damm good bike better then they screw it up and blame Harley. Take a breath enjoy your pride and joy. I have not had issues that you have discribe. Relative to the dealership just treat them like you would be treated.
no worries on enjoyin my ride... is hard to wipe the smile off my face... i try hard to do a thoruogh visual inspection whenever i wash my bike and have found nothing even remotely wrong by looking at it... as i said, it seems to be perfect, but then i aint tore into her yet either... but, really am not THAT worried, it wont keep me from riding... tho my experience with harley is limited, so far, my thoughts are wow, thats a nice bike!!...mostly was just curious... and would rather notice a problem before things go bad rather than after... and am still wondering how much a dealer has to do with the bike after it comes from the factory... can some or all of these issues be blamed on poor dealer set up?

I picked up my Superglide Custom from the dealer. Gave it a real good walk around and took off.
I got home and when I walked around the front there was this huge bug splattered all over the headlight. I was pizzed, how could the dealer let that slip by in the inspection. I'm never doing buisness with them again.
