If one blows on a car with four its dangerous, and many have lost their lives....I'm taken care of the two on my putt. Just changed rear at 7k...(thanks ThunderMax....probably 10k without you) about a mm from the wear bar. Its dangerous enough out there without inviting trouble. Getting her ready for hibernation.

Normally, I will get 2 rear tires to every front. But I do check my tire pressure regularly. Part of it will depend on your riding style. Every time I change the oil on my scoot, I take a tread reading.
The last time I changed tires was when a crack appeared in the sidewall. Plenty of tread was left, but the crack said "change me now!"
Use the tyre wear bar as an indicator, but all the tyre manufacturers agree, no more, wear below 1mm of tread, basicaly, your wear limit should be 1mm of tread, no less.

Changed one yesterday on my 07/....parts were more worn than others....weird...added dyna beads this time...basically i could've gone another 500-1000 miles but i am leaving to go to the mountains on Saturday morning , i had 2 new rear tires that i bought ahead of time so it was a no brainer....when i don't feel good about what i see i change it...i like to think water can channel a bit through the grooves and if i think it can't then i can hydroplane easier and that's not good...
Talking about cracks in the sidewall, I bought a 98 this summer with quite a few cracks in the sidewalls. I've ridden them about 1,000 miles and after reading this I think I was lucky not to have any problems yet.
The problem must not be traction, is it more about the strength of the rubber when it gets to be a certain age?
Sounds like I need move new tires to the top of my priority list.
