I have a couple of friends that dress for the ride. If they are riding their sport bikes, they leather up more and when riding with them I see why. They turn and burn. It's a thrill ride then. They corner more aggressively and really exaggerate their lean angles while leaving me behind to catch up in the straights. What I have also noticed is that they both wear helmets almost --key word almost all the time. Both have gone down and one of them will tell you about the hardest he has ever hit the ground. It was over a crushed can front tire hit while he was braking to turn into a parking lot.

Why would anyone own a "sport bike" and not ride it in a sporting fashion i.e. riskier than putting or "cruising"? So they dress for the ride, or risk. Makes sense to me. However, I don't own no stinkin' eggbeater. I only ride a Harley.

I have two harleys and wear FF and ATGATT. Mostly mesh stuff as I live in Florida. Do wear jeans occasionally, but the "gear" pants are actually more comfortable on long runs as they are cut for riding.

I would guess different people have different reasons. Some it will be a risk perception thing, on a sports bike aggressive riding (or the thought of it) makes them feel more vulnerable, whereas on a cruiser it is more laid back and they feels safer. For others it will be fashion or the marketing factor. I saw a pic in the HOG mag of a group of riders not a full face helmet between them, yesterday in my car I had to brake hard to save a sports rider (full face, dark visor) from killing himself as he made a serious mistake during an overtake. Me I am ATGATT regardless of bike.
