I wear half because I use hearing as much as eye sight don,t like to be confind tried wearing full face just don,t feel as safe because can't see as much or hear as much
I'm with ya on that brother . I just get too dang hot in a ff . And I can't hear , or see better than my shorty .
I have bad arthritis in my neck going down between my shoulder blades (because of an old injury). I now wear the lightest freaking helmet I can find which is usually the illegal skid lid. I have been pulled over for speeding. The officer asked about my helmet I told him the truth.. I didn't get a ticket for the speeding or the helmet. He was pretty cool for a Jackson County Mo. deputy sheriff.
I think it just depends.. you would look kind of funny on a crotch rocket with engineers boots, dirty jeans, and harley tshirt, skull cap or bandanna and leather vest with pins on it. the same applies to the harley rider with the full crockett gear. It just don't look right.
gear... will NOT in and of itself, make one a better, or safer rider.
I'm PRO-helmet.... but I'm anti-helmet LAW..... rider education is the key, gear, is misleading, and can cause a stupid person to think they can defy the laws of physics.
In the history of biker VS asphalt.... asphalt is undefeated.
As someone has on their sig here.... "stupid SHOULD hurt"
Helmets! It has always amazed me why those that have to wear a helmet feel so compelled to harp on those of us that do not wear one.I have always felt much safer without the that lump of fiberglass taking away the one freedom I have desired since I saw my first motorcycle back in the 50's.You will never hear me harp on you to try riding without one.Never forget, Let those Who Ride Decide!
Some of you guys sure get your panties in a wad when the word helmet is mentioned. My original question had nothing to do with helmet laws or whether or not you should wear one.
My original question was, why do some people that own two different types of bikes decide to wear a helmet and gear on one type but not the other?
I wear no helmet where I am not required to do so. In helmet law states I wear a 1/2 helmet. When the weather turns ugly I wear a 3/4 helmet with full face shield. Both helmets are DOT.
I have a question to the folks that ride cruisers and sportbikes or sport tourers.
I have a few friends that have both type of bikes. When riding their cruisers, they wear a half (or no) helmet and a t-shirt & jeans. When they ride their other bikes, they wear a FF and go ATGATT.
I have asked them why they dress differently on the different bikes and they usually just shrug their shoulders and say "I don't know". Isn't the asphalt just as hard when you hit it falling off a cruiser as it would be falling from any other bike?
Or is it that the desire to be an individual and dress like everyone else is too strong? It makes no sense to dress differently on different bikes.
I know we all have a certain level of risk's that we are willing to take. Wouldn't the risk level be the same for all types of motorcycles ridden on public roadways?
Don't tell me that it's because the sportbikes are faster. These are not squids, but responsible adults who don't ride like maniacs. Plus, I would think they would feel safer on their sport bikes, since the handling and braking capabilities are far superior to their cruisers. Personally I don't care what a person wears to ride, it just seems strange to dress differently depending on what bike you are on.So, do any of you multi bike owners have to dress the part for each bike or do you ride ATGATT no matter what bike you are on?
Apparently you do care.....if not, why would you start the thread and ask the question to begin with.

I have a Harley and Hayabusa. A wear a full face helmet and leather jacket on both bikes. I live in a helmet law state (NC) but I think that those who ride should decide. Either way I will always wear my gear. I have survived two major crashes with no injuries or road rash. I am still riding and want to continue to ride despite all the bad drivers who seem out to get me. I see guys ride around in novelty helmets and t-shirts on Harleys and full face helmets and shorts on sport bikes. I just look at them laugh like most people do.
