I like walking in to a dealership and looking at all the different choices. I can easily **** away a half hour to an hour drooling over bikes I "could have bought".
My take on this is a little bit different, all kinds of baby boomers want to get young again by getting harleys, be like everyone else. So harley makes bikes that appeal to the masses. Hey, my bike looks like all the other hd's out there, I'm cool!. I much rather prefer to start with a bone stock bike and do it my way than buy something that 50,000 other people have! Is not the reason for the real harley rider to make his bike unique? We are individuals, and harleys are the only rides that promote this!!
They do, and have been for years. You simply order the one model with a specific package. That package could include special trim options, an optional motor, wheels, sound system and so on.
Why doesn't HD reduce costs by only offering one model of each line?
(those *true* statements on the discontinued models thread just got me wondering...)
Why not offer:
1 XL 1200
1 XL883
1 Dyna
1 FX Softail
1 FL Softail
1 Touring
1 VSRC
People could then simply order the bolt-on options and paint-job from the factory, or just buy what dealers ordered and have on the showroom floor. You know, like a car dealer.
I didn't buy a Harley to "stay young". I have no misconception about my age and accept the inability to do anything about it. My wife said something about midlife crisis when I bought it. I'll say it again, like I told her, "It's not a midlife crisis unless I come riding up with a hot looking 25 year old babe on the back". (Not gonna happen)
Crapshooter is nothing more than a troll looking for attention. Obviously insecure if he thinks he needs to ride or drive anything in particular to show the world that "he's at the top of his game".
Have you seen the cost of the bolt on extras? They can be downright outrageous. I got my 883 XLC for the forward mounted controls. That would have been a pain to add, not to mention the difficult ride home on the bike. Oh, I guess I could have had the dealer install it,but I love my first born child and want to keep her.
