why did you pick your screen name as faber? shouldnt it be all the same like. harley rider? everybody should have harley rider with a # after it. that number will be your member number, then we can all have the same name.
NOT
because this is america and we have choices. choices make money
it might cut costs... but at the same time it could cause more of a hassle. We like our options, and we dont always like to have to go through the extra steps just to get our options. I think HD will be okay and they wont have to start cutting bikes.
Something along the lines of you buy/order a FXD then you check off the options you want? You can get the base bike or add mini apes, Low Rider dash, forwards and choice of tires and fenders??? Might actually make sense but it would take money out of the service departments pockets losing the after sales add ons.
Not to mention slowing the production line down a bunch!! Each bike would basically be a custom built bike for it's owner. Just thinking of the parts logistics would be a nightmare. Then the accountants would be going postal if they had to come up with a different MSRP for every bike that rolled off the line.

Recently watched a show on GM and how each model car they have currently has over 10,000 option combinations. As part of their restructuring, they will be dropping this to about 1000 option combinations to reduce costs. But then I remember when you went to buy a Cadillac Deville, you had two choices....option package A or option package B (which was same as A with a couple more items added).
I would like to see a bare-bones model myself in some of the basic platforms. A bare-bones Electra-Glide probably wouldn't make much sense to enough people, but a bare-bones softail would. If your going to replace the tins, bars, wheels, controls, seat, etc. than why should you have to buy the stock parts to start with?
