I road up to Laughlin, NV today for the annual Laughlin River Run and much to my amazement and disappointment, Harley Davidson Motor Company was not in attendance!
Victory Motorcycle and most of the metrics all had nice large displays. All of the major aftermarket vendors were represented. This is the first time in the 28 year history of the event that Harley was a NO SHOW. Is this a sign that things are worse at Harley than we are being told? Why the penny pinching? Dose this mean that Harley will be a NO SHOW at Sturgis too?
Im temped to go back to Laughlin and sell T-shirts that say
I Was At Laughlin 2009 But Harley-Davidson Wasnt
never been there but from what i've heard and read Laughlin is another dying rally.times are tough and HD is probably picking which rallys to be in attendace at. Can't be at all of them i'm sure they have been or will be at rallys that you aren't at. wouldn't call it penny pinching, just protecting what they have in dire times
HD is one of the few manufacturing companies that continue to make a PROFIT in this recession. Maybe it is precisely because of this "penny pinching" and good management that they are making a profit.
The CEO makes too much, the company doesn't show up, the stealer does this, they don't do that...
Bitch, bitch, bitch...

Why does Harley have to be at every event? I personally look forward to seeing the babes scantily dressed, If you want to see a Harley there's plenty of dealers to visit. H.D. would just make a event like this more commercial anyways. Does Harley sponsor the River Run? If not, no loss for me, I'm headed out there this Friday and Sat. See YAA.........
Harley has a marketing plan which seems to work quite well for them and I see now that they are doing more and more grass roots type things such as many more dealer visits with the test ride program. Does anyone really think that any manufacturer goes to a rally with their factory team thinking they will sell bikes? The greater majority of bikes attending the rally are HD and the others are there trying to get a seat at the table...oh the table has a huge HD in the middle of it...if their market share suffers and they feel rally attendance is the way to increase it, they will be back...oh and also there may have been a better place for them to be that week.
