Just wondering. I see quite a few postings about milage ranging from
new to over 100K and used to think that more than 20K on a motorcycle was considered high milage. But what's the real deal with that? Is it like a car or truck when it comes to milage or not?
I'm not sure what constitutes high mileage, but I know what doesn't. 20K is not high mileage by any stretch. That's just a couple or few years of normal around town riding.
Seems like in a customer's mind though, anything over 20,000 is bad, bad, bad. It's almost impossible to sell a used bike with more than that many miles on it and as far as trading it in, bend over! It seems like I'm always punished when I get rid of my bikes as they always have more than what is considered "normal."
my stepdad has over 125k now on his 03 duece with lackluster maintenance (oil changes every 5-8k, and nothing else),and zero problems so far, besides a speedo sensor going out. although, he has been talking about hearing a knock recently coming from the bottom end, so it may be on it's way out. still starts on the first try every time, and has never left him on the side of the road though. doesn't leak oil either! haha. i have no doubt the TC will run reliably for at least 150-200k with scheduled maintenance performed. take care of it, and it will take care of you.

Southpaw Super Glide: A Left-Hand-Drive 1979 Harley FXE Built to Fit the Rider
One of our HOG members had an 07 Electra Glide. This guy rides a lot. He bought it from our local dealer, a small town where everyone kinda knows everyone else. He wanted to trade it for a new 09 but the dealer really didn't want it. They said it had "high mileage". The bike had 56,000 on it.
So from a dealers stand point, maybe for resale or whatever, they consider that high mileage.
They finally worked out a deal and I know the dealer gave the guy as much as they could but it was only $13,000 and the bike was in excellent condition. Not sure what he paid for the new bike.
i'm getting ready to do the 30k maintenance on my 07. do i consider that high mileage? hell no!... it's just now getting broke in. i would much rather buy a 5 year old bike with 50k on it than a 5 year old bike with 1k on it. you can have a lot of maintenance issues from not being ridden as well as being ridden too hard.
